Hi Guys

I need your help with a warning light on my '98 E36 328i dash...it's the DSC(dynamic stability control) / ASC+T(automatic stability cotrol + traction control)...it stase on and won't go off even if you press the green button at the gearlever.

I even removed the relay for overnight and checked all the fuses showen and all is good...when i got the car there were a 235/45R17 on one side and a 225/45R17 on other side at the rear....got home and put the 235/45R17 in front and a other 225/45R17 at the back...so both wheels at back is the same now....

Pls. can someone help with this problem.....
Cheers

I don't really know but I would check if 1 of the ABS sensor pulled out the hub or wiring got damaged when changing wheel.
Take the battery of over night to reset.
Drive the car 50 km or so.... might need calibration.
Also see what happens if you hold the ASC button for 10 seconds.

the 235/45R17 has bigger radius than the 225/45R17 so the dsc thinks the rear wheels are spinning all the time...

ether move the 235/45R17 to the back and finish it or get the right size tire... like its supposed to be...

disconnecting the battery overnight on an OBDII E36 will do squat, dont waste your time that only works on OBDI cars.

Its the wheel speed sensors as maranor says, your front is too big it should be 235/40 not 45

The 235/45R17 were on the rear of car first(light on)...then i moved the wheel to the front and put the 225/45R17 from the front on the rear of the car to get both rear wheels the same size...but the light still is on and won't go off even if pressing the asc butten for 10sec.....so the front wheel sensors is now picking up the bigger wheel in front?

Will go and replace the 235/45R17 with a 225/45R17 so that all 4 wheels is 225/45R17....

Thanx guys

it might also be a faulty wheel speed sensor. I'm running 245/40 rear and 225/45 front, car handles a hell of a lot better than it did when i bought it with 235/40's all round

i did not think the asc would have that much of a problem with the rears being different, but i guess it does... you should rather get another 235 and fit it to the back :)

if the old tire is very worn you can still have the problem so you might have to replace 2 tires...

Thanx for all the comments guys, think i will just replace the 235/45R17 with a 225/45R17 to match the other 3 tyres on the car and see if the light won't go off then....

I agree that the 235/45R17 is to thick for the 3 series bmw's.....but is only the one 235/45R17 on my bmw,the other 3 tyres is 225/45R17.....that's why i only need to replace one tyre....

Might need to do alignment again after the tyres were swapped around :dunno:

Well, I am so broke I can't pay attention.

My car has cost me a small fortune in the last few weeks.

1. New clutch.
2. New oil welsh plug.
3. 4 new Pirelli RFT 205/45/17.
4. Flatbed for 200 plus km.

At least my car is now 100's.

i do believe the man with a skeef eye lost a release bearing which caused some damage as it made its exit.

I was coming back from Barrydale and about 10 km before Riviersonderend the car lost power, the oil light came on and clouds of white smoke behing the car.

I pulled over to find oil on the side and back of the car and a big pool of oil under the car. The engine sounded like a diesel running on cod liver oil.

Poured more oil into the engine only to see it run onto the ground. Flatbed to my house in Table View = R2770.00

Flatbed to Zeemax the next day = R550.00.

Turns out the clutch release bearing disintegrated and a metal spacer got caught by the flywheel. A piece of this spacer got between the flywheel and the engine block and ripped the welsh plug out of it's seat. The clutch got submerged in oil before the oil ran out the bell housing.

New clutch etc = R8000.00. The extended warranty only paid half. While the car was on this hoist I could see the downside of my driving style on the tires. 4 new Pirelli RFT 205/45/17 = R7600.00.

No more credit card, savings and no more cash under the bed.

Oh well, I started with nothing and still have most of it left.:pimp:

I thought that light is also the safe mode light. So if it stays on wouldn't the car be in safe mode? I say put it on diagnosis and get codes read.
