Good day guys
I want to convert my e90 to xenon headlights and came across a guy stripping his accident damage e90 , now he had only 1 side of the headlight and its cracked on the plastic on the top so you can see the globe on the inner xenon , we put the key in and the angels come on but the xenon did not come on , does the car need to start for xenon to activate ?

Secondly this beind a Quad xenon the inner xenon shroud seems to be displaced and facing sligthly downwards is it repairable ? And what is the chances of me finding the other side to match ?

3rdly the xenon shroud has bmw xenon D12 is this the dymnamic xenon and if this unit works can I deactivate the movement of the xenon if connected to my e90 ?

Should I take the 1 headlight from him and try to sourch the other or rather leave this injured unit alone and source 2 from the same car ?

This kind of retrofit is not easy. You need ballasts for the xenons and the car needs to be coded in order to know what to do with the lights. Your VO also needs to be changed and possibly you need new control modules.

Have a look at the official retrofit document from BMW for a clear idea of what is involved in converting a Halogen setup to Xenon: BMW E90 Non Adaptive Retrofit

For a xenon light to work you do need to have a control unit for the xenon light. That control provides the power for the xenon light to work. You might also need to have to correct footwell module which is mapped to work with the xenon light (on that note i am not too sure though).

Looking fwd to hearing what the other guys will say.

+1 . Considered this on my 1er. Started pricing the components and it got mad expensive very quickly, so shelved that plan! I believe the Philips HID kits are good, they're roughly about R1500, but not MP friendly. and sadly no angel eyes if that's what you were after...

Is this control unit not with the headlight a box at the back of the headlight ?

:nonono: That would make it cheap and easy to convert... not the BMW way...

I also wanted to convert to OEM xenons, but at the end of the day it was just too expensive for what you actually get. Even second hand you'll be paying close to R10 000, and new R22 000.

This is the route I think I am going to take next time I go back to the states I am going to get these guys to retro-fit FX-R projectors in to DEPO P90 headlights. Its still R7 900. But for a brand new set of lights I can justify that. Not for a second hand set that's already 7 years old. And some people argue that the FX-R projectors are better then stock. I'm not all clued up on it so I don't know. But here's a comparison.

You could also order the lights off ebay and get some one locally to do the retrofit.

FX-R

Hey guys,
i did a oem retrofit halogen to bi-xenon on my e90 lci 335i, i can tell you your biggest worry is to get the headlamps, bulbs, and control units, i was lucky enough to find a guy selling a set of them brand new with bulbs and control units for 5k, if you can source it cheap then it can be done, i did tons of research on this and finally did it, if anyone wants more info or advise on how abt to go with this, I'll be glad to help

sorry for poor picture quality, blackberry camera:nonono:

It's just easier to convert your current headlights with the kit from Vsomai. It's much cheaper and less of a head ache.
