Hi, I have an oil leak on my 2006 325i (A). BMW dealer says that gearbox sump needs replacement at a cost of approx. R6500.00. Please give suggestions whether to replace or is there alternatives? Any feedback will be highly appreciated.
Sound about right - I had mine done last year December. Car was under MP though and the bill was R5590 at JSN motors. The cover itself was the expensive part at around R3600.
Maybe try one of the independent gearbox companies. Your car has a ZF gearbox - might only be slightly cheaper though ...
no way around this one..common prob..the box oil sumps plastic and they damage easily and start leaking..(worse on sports pack models due to lower suspension)..the part should come with a oil filter according to the part description..maybe take it to ZF and give the box a oil service while you at it?..N.B if it's a bad leak get it done quick..not healthy for a box to be driven with low oil
no prob ...mines went a month ago..luckily still on MP..3500 is a much better price than the stealers..lol cheaper than the part itself from the stealers:fencelook:
Y am I not getting the love u guys get from ZF? Went there a few weeks back for hard 2-1 downshift and was advised against a box service as this will cause the gears to slip.
I was quoted either R75k for a new box or R30k for a recon box :fencelook:. I asked them to reset adaptations and box is a lot better on downshifts even though there's an occasional hard downshift.
Car is a '05 E90 320D with 192k on the clock. Any ideas? I got a feeling the oil might low.

About 10kkm after you reset the adaptations, it will be way worse than before. Never reset adaptations unless you have done a valve body rebuild. (Which, I suspect is exactly what your box needs.)
