Hey there beemer fanatics,im a young man who just purchased my first bmw,it an e30,320i,2 door and i need some help with a few things im tyring to accomplish. 1st things first, i have a set of 18inch rims laying in my garage,was thinking if i should fit them,are there any suspension implications,secondly i have beautiful chrome bumpers,is chrome better than plastic? lastly the car is extremely heavy on petrol,ive had a few cars before but never as heavy as this one,is this normal?

How heavy is heavy??? Give us a litre per 100km number... example, is it 11litres per 100km... or 17l per 100km...

When it comes to rims be sure of the offset before "chucking" them on a boxie. Rubbing can be an issue as well as it looking like a 4*4 should it not be dropped. Also make sure you dont have to use spacers. If you do, rather sell the 18's and get a nice set of OEM 15/16 or a decent set of 17's in the correct offset.
I know if I boought a cromie I would keep it old school with basketweave wheels or something of the sort.
The plastic bumpers were technically more advanced running the better Motronic fuel management system as well as a few aesthetic differences between the 2, so it comes more down to preference then anything else.

Uh, and 13l per 100k's isnt too shabby, i used to run around 10/11 per 100k when my plastic bumper was still a std 320i and strangely enough, once it was stroked it still did 10k's. But that was with management etc

Thanks for the grand welcome guys,ill post pics as soon as im home,at work at the moment and the guys here have firewalls restricting photo uploads :fencelook: .. i can bypass but then risk the chance of losing the income that got me my bmw:rollsmile: ... so u say 13l per 100km is not bad...for me its terrible,bare in my mind my last car was a toyota corolla 1.6. Ill post the pics as soon as im home,i anticipate your responses and suggestions.

For a 2 litre 4 pot engine... maybe a lil high. My 1999 e46 2.5 litre straight six did 11litres before it was supercharged. Now its sits between 11 and 13litres depending on how spirited my driving is.
So maybe 13l is high, but then again its an older engine... sooo maybe not? I am not the expert. But just thought I'd give you a comparison.

The e30 2.0l engines are I6's :rollsmile: so that consumption does not seem that bad to me.
I would be careful of fitting really big wheels to and e30 for the things already mentioned here. In my personal opinion I would not go bigger than 17" on a e30. Also if you fit bigger wheels you will end up negatively affecting fuel consumption and performance.

i dont think larger than 17' look good on the e30...
i would lower it before i looked at rims ive seen 18" on an e30 and they look huge, but i dont know what offset they were...

Hi welcome to fanatics family . Is it manual or auto . The 320i chrome bumper was not economical , the 325i was not much heavier and it ran much better .
Wheels-17 inch alpines are nice as are bbs - these old school mags suite these cars best . Dropping suspension and fitting mags stuffs the cars ride up -tread carefully here .

I agree...especially for the e30. Unless you want to invest in a brand new suspension kit etc...which is not advisable, considering the age of the car...stay as close to OEM as possible....if you can get a part meant for the car brand new then go for it. :thumbs:
guys your responses are overwhelming,its great to have people giving worthwhile advice,after the sprayjob ill post a few rims i have in mind,the e30 unfortunately is auto, i bought it because i loved the shape and i was dead set on getting a 2 door,however bieng impulsive led me to a haizy decision. DO u guys know if the this particular model was problematic in auto,is a manual conversion a very big job (worthwhile)?
