Hi Guys,

I've had a recurring issue on my car involving a squeaking from engine bay, Ive already taken my car to SavSpeed shop twice for the same issue, 1st time car had belt and tensioner Spring replaced 2nd time the car had belt replaced again and a brand new pulley tensioner fitted and both times the car would be fine for a week, then slowly then noise would creep back:cry:

"When I start the car for the first time of the day I'll hear a very loud squeaking/squealing sound. After about 10-15 minutes of driving the sound pretty much disappears. However, if the car sits for a few hours and is started again the sound will be back and after a few minutes of driving it will go away again. The longer the car sits without being started, the longer the noise will be present for upon start up"

iv read another fourm on bimmerfest http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=788460

which is a carbon copy of my issue, and i see he found a fix by replacing the belt with a OEM belt.... im just struggling to see how 2 different belts could be fitted and the same issue happens. iv already dump a lot of money into this issue and dont want to continue that way.

your comments will be highly appreciated.

I have the same problem at the moment and im going straight for the oem belt as the replacement

Have you tried the water test to check if it is the belt? Usually pouring a little water on the belt identifies the belt as the issue if the sound goes away.

You may also have a slight oil leak around the oil filter housing and oil housing cooler pipes. Just check around that area for any oil sweating through. They wont be that visible at first but just run your hand under the cooler pipes on the oil filter housing when the engine is cold.

These gaskets are not expensive.

I hope this helps

I had the same issue on my E90 320d. Replaced the belt only to have it come back a week later. Went to Midas, bought a belt treatment which sorts the noise. Not willing to replace the belts again after only doing 100km, it's a kak job. As soon as dirt or oil gets on the belt it starts squeaking.

The general Midas one, can't remember the exact brand but it's a fan belt treatment product

Check the front part your engine if valve cover gasket insnt leaking, sometimes oil will leak from oil filter housing gasket area into the belt.

some good news it seems,

i reached under the Oil filter Housing and found oil there, so seems the Gasket has failed and was dripiing oil onto the belt causing the abnoxius noise!! which adds to why after putting a new belt on, the noise stopped and slowly returned after a week.

thanks a bunch!!:ty:

What's your mileage? I just had the same gasket replaced at 120k kms. Seems to be another n54 thing to look at for.

I just logged in to do a search because I'm having the exact same problem. And here is the answer right on the top thread. Glad to see there's an easy fix. If it is the gasket can i DIY it?

I'm on 130k*

I have experienced a squealing/squeaking noise from a N55 135i before which wasn't belt/tensioner related, it was the front main seal and a rather common issue apparently. To diagnose it you simply open the oil cap with the engine running while the squealing noise is there, if the noise goes away when you open the cap then you know its that front main seal.
