Before you buy the 330d, just consider a few of the CONS.

1: Reliability: These engines are known to needing a complete rebuild around 1 million kilometers which will be very costly.

2: Power: With a tune and dp these cars barely make over 700nm and JUST over 230kw. If you have a few uphills on your drive to work, I would really think twice about buying it.

3: Economy: Buying a massive 3L engine which GUZZLES 6-7 l/100km may not be the best idea. Consider a bicycle or a brisk walk rather.

Real shabby figures , I can not believe Ive fallen for a X5 30d and still keep on smiling , so I might as well tune and dp? More info please

What makes this tricky is the car is in CPT. So I'm arranging the financing from this side. In my mind the bin checks out on BMW's website (car was last serviced there and motor plan is active), I'll ask BMW to run the vin as well. If that is OK and my uncle checks it out tomorrow and confirms the good is in good nic and drives well I should be OK. It was just the upgrade of the screen that worried me. The seller tells me he installed an upgraded 10.2" screen that he bought from a place called vwtoyota touchscreens. I see it says on their website manufacturer warranties are not affected as their units are plug and play. I called the installer this guy used and the installer told me the same thing - its plug and play and no mods are done to the car. And yes I'm getting the original screen with the car. What you guys think?

The f30 radios have issues and switch on and off as they please at times and also freeze sometimes. I think that BMW would use any excuse they can to not replace your headunit if that time comes and with the aftermarket screen you are basically giving them a excuse to not process the claim IMO.

OK...need some advice. The car went for a full technical and diagnostic today at Dekra along with roadworthy. The following errors were picked up on the diagnostic report. I don't know how it works - wondering if these can be old alarms? I had the car checked out by a fam member this evening and the AC and sunroof work fine so does the radio. He did install an after market 10.2"touch screen from vwtotoyta touch screens...they say its plug and play and doesn't cause any issues. I am getting the original screen with the car. Not sure if that could cause the head unit error? Car is still under motor plan. Wesbank requested the inspection so not sure what they are gonna say about the diag report...I don't know if those are common alarms that can just be cleared...old ones that were never cleared before etc. The car was at BMW for a service 1 Aug. And then there is a small gap in the dash on the drivers side...that supposed to be like that?

CANT figure out how to post pics hehehe...got them on a google drive and shared but doesn't work?

If he did not disconect the battery it will log a fault when he fitted the screen. If you have BMW software it will tell you at what mileage it was logged. You do get nuisance codes also.

Did you know that if your alarm goes off it logs that also and date time temp everything. So No idea why they send it to Dekra

I would not be to bothered if everything is working and no engine or gearbox faults are logged.

Use tapatalk to post the pictures.

That said, I doubt Dekra look at the logged errors. From what I have seen, they actually do physical testing. So they will check every light, and see that it goes on when it should. They physically do battery test, and they let me know a battery was going to die..and it did. They do physical inspection on the body inside and out ect. They really do great testing.
Dont worry about the error codes. If they about the radio and sunroof, you can tell Dekra you will get it fixed and that you don't think that a minor issue like that should stop the deal, especially if they actually work.

Oh I have an aftermarket radio in my E46. Rheingold ISTA-D says my radio is faulty, but thats because the after market radio doesn't report or react to reading. So it just looks missing.

My worry is, those other errors could be valid and then I take the car to BMW and they tell me the motor plan is void cause of the after market sat nav touch screen that was installed. Then I'm screwed.

Also I don't know what Wesbank is going to say about those error codes. Personally I feel the guy should take the car to BMW and have the errors sorted before I take it. I really don't want this to end pear-shaped for me.

But I really want the car...

All I can say is now. Fit the old display and take it to BMW. Also keep in mind that when you disconect the battery on these cars and then reconnect they also log false errors in many cases. Honestly I think car is in order as long as no serious modules have any errors.

Feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place here. If I take the car as is, I would either need to find someone and pay to have the original screen put back in and have the errors cleared before I can take it to BMW and really don't know if I wana pay for that nor have the time for it. If anything fails between now and March I want to have peace of mind that I can take the car to BMW and they will sort it out. Think of telling the seller to have the screen put back and get the errors cleared at BMW before I take it...but slightly concerned he then pulls out and I lose a good deal...cause the price for the model, spec, year and mileage is a good deal.

Double check with BMW around the radio and find out if thats going to be a problem going forward with the warranty/motorplan.

As for the faults they could be previous faults that are stored in the system and havent been cleared. Dont assume that cause the car was at the dealers for service that they checked the faults or cleared any faults on the car.

If you in JHB or the seller is, you can bring to me and i can check/clear the faults for you

Update - hi all. Hope to be in my Beemer tomorrow! Buying a 320d M Sport 2016 model from BMW. Few things on the car being sorted out today - centre arm rest reupholster due to wear and quality checks, road worthy and new tires. Will post pics! Thanks again to everyone for their time and input - its really 100% helped me make the right decision I believe. Already ordered myself an M Sport cap from BMW hahaha. I test drove the 320d and the power really feels good. Not quite a 330d but its OK to me for now. Good quality, decent mileage 330d's are scarce. Excited!

Congratulations on the buy. There is nothing wrong with a 320d and you should be satisfied. I had my 320d for 5 years and one of the best. Then I got myself a 330d. Allot more power and fuel consumption is a bit higher when you have a heavy foot. I searched for 2 years for a 330d that was in my price bracket and extras I wanted. They are rare aspecially if they are spect nicely due to their purchase price when New. I reacon a decent spec 330d brand new today would be about 1mil.

Awaiting your photos. What are the specs and mileage on your new buy 320d ???

Always be on the lookout once you have an itch for more torque. (Torque is very addictive and that eats tyres)

OK - here she it is. :ty:

Want to thank you all for answering my endless questions and giving your advice. At least you know it wasn't for nothing. I added a pic of the finishing trim. When I first saw wood when I ran the VIN I thought oh no...but when I saw this version I liked it. I wana do a few things - but specifically looking at doing the mags. I did post on under the wheels section as well. Not sure about the 3 options I know - spray painting, powder coating and plastidip. Also looking for an indication on price between the options.
