So its been a while since I have been part of any car forum. (Never stopped being a car nut)
A lot has changed on my side, sure same here. Only been in contact with my good buddy and fellow VW owner Tris.
Last year July I decided to let go of my Dodge. Since my mom moved back to Cape Town (no need for a 7 seater anymore), and Dodge pulling out of the country I decided to take the bath at that point rather than later. Also wanted to reduce my monthly car expenses and fuel bill. Made more sense than owning two cars when I am the only driver. This move helped my bond tremendously as I now had more funds to dump into it. Aim is to be bond free in 5 years time.
I needed something, that could save me on my monthly car expenses (installments, insurance and maintenance), and save me on fuel. I also needed a car I can run daily, and not fork out loads of mandelas, to do so.
So the search started, as far back as March 2017. There was many choices, initially wanted a BMW again, but that meant expensive runflats, and a higher purchase price, or buying a 3 year old one (not going to work in terms of my 5-6 year financial plan) . Then I also still have the bad taste in my mouth with the experience I got from Leo Haese Centurion with my E90 saga. So that was out. Looked at a C200 cdi as well, but they have very limited legroom in the back.
After deciding to wait it out, I took a walk one day to the mall, and decided to walk across the road to VW, to go look around. I met a salesman, we spoke a bit, and he took me for a drive in a Jetta. (they had great specials on at the time). Perfect family car, to daily as well. Set about looking for a 2.0Tdi. They scares as hens teeth on the pre-owned/demo market. I choose never to buy brand new, hence I have always purchased demo's/fairly new'ish second hand cars.
Again decided to wait it out, then browsing the internet a few weeks later I came across this 2017 Jetta 1.6Tdi DSG. Decided to give the dealer a call, we spoke. The Thursday morning he called me to say finance approved. Friday they met me at the house to do final valuation, and left with the Dodge. To cover my shortfall I threw my Hyundai, into the deal. So only one car for now, but since my wife does not drive, I don't need two.
I picked up this beauty Saturday 8 July 2017. Its fully loaded, with almost every optional extra. It had 9000km on the clock.
So far its been a quiet year and a few months of ownership. Autohause Centurion service is great and the car does what I need it to do brilliantly. Mileage is now on 34 000km, averaging daily in start stop traffic at 6.5l/100km. Added a few things, exhaust tip, plug and play replacement deck (usb, bluetooth, aux, memory card, satnav dvd), bootspoiler. Was going to do more, but that itch has returned. So for now I wont do more mods or changes. Will see what the new year brings.
On to some pics. Yes I know its a VW, but I remember people here used to like pics.
Cheers
