hey everybody whats up ?
i got a bmw 320d 2001 , 136hp (non common rail) 188092km on the clock
car used to run fine, when i noticed heavy white smoke coming out of the exhaust at idle
i suspected the cylinder head gasket and i was right
towed it right away to my friend;s workshop
he removed the cylinder head, checked pistons and piston rings, all were fine
cylinders were all in good shape cylinder head had been milled (cleaned)
there was no damage to any part of the cylinder head

now new original head gasket was installed
did the timing using BMW special tool according to BMW TIS
put everything back together

now car struggles to start , takes between 5-10 sec to start
its like there is no fuel goin to the engine
when it starts it gives white smoke from the exhaust
idles fine

now when its running , i put it into Drive , and press gas pedal
it moves very very slow, the rpm dont go past 1100rpm
i need to to drive it for t 30-50 meters in order for the car to
to fully respond
(car reaches 4000rpm or more when it in N)
and the other day i noticed the car wont go past 3000rpm when in 4th gear
no matter what i do ,
and noticed it doesnt have the power it had before this head gasket job

car been checked with GT1 , no errors at all
my mechanic has no idea whats goin on
took it to 3 more workshops , nobody could fix it
bmw dealer said turbo is gone , but its not

---------------------------------------
i changed all vaccum hoses, didnt fix
new turbo breather , didnt fix it
egr cleaned (was already clean) , didnt fix it
turbo was checked by 2 specialist , they said it was fine and in a good shape
what could be the problem?

i forgot to say
after using the car for an hour or so
it will fire right up with no problems
but if i leave for 30mins or more it will have
this hard start problem again

i also noticed if i stop crankin the car
it will blow heavy smoke

hi
If you say your car doesn't have the common rail engine, then it means it has the older type of injector pump which needs to be set. The delay in starting may be that the pump needs to be set correctly , maybe it just needs to be advanced or retarded slightly. The pump also may have a solenoid on it, make sure that all connections are intact. I once had a similar problem but it was a Toyota bakkie, didn't want to rev hard as when the revs picked up the lug on the solenoid would come loose and when its idling it would be intact. The problem should be small though. Hope it aint major.

Hey

Once you get your starter problem sorted out and if it still smoking, then check your turbo seals...

@ ernest
i will check all that
i have the right tools
(tdc pin, dial gauge, pump puller)
i only need need the dial guage holder
i cant find any for vp44 pumps
do you know where i can get one of these holders ?
all i can find is for VE pumps on VW cars

@Wez
the smoking only occures when starting the car
when its running, there is none at all
