My e36 325i has been parked today the whole day and this evening all of a sudden the hazard lights started flashing, I unlocked car and started it and all good, but don't know what caused it to flash.
I locked it now, hope it doesn't start again, any advice ?

Didn't the alarm maybe spontaneously go off without u hearing it? Coz i know the hazards flash for awhile after the hooter stops sounding and then it resets again

Lmao. My alarm spontaneously goes off but one of my sensors are busted I think. Still need to sort that out

+1 on the alarm

On my E36-325i the factory alarm was only functioning at 25%...ie no audible tone, but on activation would alternatively flash headlights and hazards for about a minute, thereafter only the hazards would flash...but also not all the time...but only "say" about for 10 secs every alternate minute.

so my thought is also the alarm.

E46?

Bonnet sensor unplug it.
Nope e36. Still can't figure out what causes it to go off. Next step is to open the wiring loom running from the boot into the car. Just to check if the wires aren't perished. Still looks like the original covering on it

check the wiring from the car into the boot lid. The e36 boot sensor is on the boot lid. The wires get hard and tear or the plastic insulation hardens and tears with friction and the wires touch and trip the alarm over and over again, might need to repair the wire or just insulate

I will keep an eye out haven't seen it happen again

And why wouldn't the alarm be audible

Should be audible. But like Ralf said. His was only working at 25% thus not audiable
