Has any one noticed?

I noticed this a while ago and its getting to me , next time you slow down to a halt do it in these 2 ways ,first gear down and then gradually when you stop depress the clutch , next depress the clutch then slow down and stop. in both cases check the energy meter (l/100km) when you slow down with the clutch depressed , the car uses +- 5l/100km and when you gear down the car uses 0l/100km . why is this ? does the car not use more fuel when you gear down?

on a decompression cycle, your injectors do not inject. When you are idling, your injectors are still injecting fuel.

I hate that little fuel economy gauge, I wish I could replace mine with something useful like an oil temp gauge.

Yeah, I feel like a prick when I see that thing, I always tell myself "calm down it's only petrol". :slap:

Then a few days later I have to fill up again :bawling:

You can always fit that E46 M3 cluster that's floating around here for sale.

Gauges/Instrument Cluster:
img_2169.jpg

Difficulty: ?/10
DIY: ?
Part Number: INSTRUMENTS COMBINATION UNCODED MPH 62117837972 $504.43

This has not been successfully done yet. People have plugged these in, and here are the results:

WORKS 100%:
- MPH
- RPM
- OnBoard Computer Functions
- Lights
- Indicators
- Engine Temp.
- Gas Info

DOES NOT WORK:
- Oil Temp. Needle
- RPM Warmup Lights
- Little orange ODO Tamper Light comes on...which is bad

This is a DIRECT PLUG AND PLAY, but will not work 100%. You be the judge...

Safe Alternatives:
- Bimmian M3-Style Gauges
- UUC Whiteface Gauges
- Silver Gauge Rings w/ Red Sharpie'd Needles

would look seriously awsome though but like you stated above the whole thing needs to work , i mean for that price you would expect it all to work.

I love that needle. My E30 318i does about 10km per liter, but it would have been LOADS worse if I did have that little gauge telling me when I'm being a chop.

Don't get me wrong... I do open the taps every now and then, but then usually no more than 4000 rpm. :hammerhead:

when you run the car in gear, with the throttle closed, you use "fuel overrun cutoff". when you idle the car, you need fuel again to keep the motor running - hence its more economical to run a car in gear down a hill, vs coasting it in neutral.
