Hi there. I am in Canada and have a 97 328i: M3 cam, 3"exhaust, M50 intake, header and AA chip, heard this the forum to come to if you need help with your BMW.... I need assistance.

I'm no expert but with a 3 inch exhaust on fairly stock 328i would there not be a performance decrease with lack of back pressure

Yes you are correct. I am planning on putting on an Active Autowerks supercharger in the very near future. Need to fix a few hick ups first. I needed a new exhaust and instead of putting stock I decided to go this route. I could not find a decent 3 inch muffler so now the is a 3 inch to 2.5 inch at the muffler.
