Let's do the math here. Minimum of 4 cars at R300 each is R1200. 1 hour of extra work for the 2 guys working there, I'm thinking let's say R400. That leaves another R800 cash in your pocket. In times where my business was struggling, I waited for every dime, but that's just me. And my trip just to kempton park was 100kilos, till where I got the call was 80kilos, still had to turn around and go home.

Don't take the wrong way...ralf is dinkum guy, and I have massive respect for his big heart. I've seen it first hand at my first charity event which took place last year during Christmas last year, when only 6 fanatics pitched at the orphanage. So I give credit where's it due.

Again well wished to ralf and his team, hope you turn it around.

I think that Firoze was more privy to the discussions going on behind the scenes in order to make this event happen.

To give a short version of the discussion:

- this event required planning and time from the events committee on the Fanatics side
- this event had agreed times and also an agreement that a full staff load would not be needed for the entirety of the day (after hours especially)
- all parties had agreed on everything that was stipulated, so in all technicality, this event should not have been cut short with at least us being notified so that we could alert the others to what was decided

I think it is still common courtesy to honour plans made, especially if it's to help a business in need. The kind of message that it puts to people willing to help is completely negative, and seeing that the Fanatics has attached their name to this draws us into accountability too.

Eish, can't escape the politics...
I got a schweps granadila and a sunburn. Lol.
Was there from 9:50 to 13:30 only to come home to a dark house from load shedding...
It's always nice to meet new fanatics and put names to faces, probably the best part about fanatics meet ups.

I know people will get angry, but I must say I was really disappointed,
I will be lucky if the wife lets me out again as I made a fool of myself and her, what I assumed the event would be and what it was, speechless,

Nevertheless none of my business, all comments made abt the event is true,
Rolf, u need to be the boss,
Its sad, people will drive more km for an ice cream run, or breakfast run, spend money to eat, yet not support a fanatic in dire need,

Again, none of my businesss, I did my part,

Now I know why the alignment guy nearly crushed Ready_D and myself under the Z3 while we were taking a look underneath, he didn't even check and just started lowering the car, we had to run out from under it...Alignment guy was oblivious to the fact he could have hurt/killed someone...:RedNo:

Ultimately, 2 issues, both of which are related to one thing, INTEREST!

1. Ralf seems to show no interest in the business. This is from what myself and many others have noticed first hand on more than 1 occasion.

2. There was no interest from us Fanatics. Like most have said, schedule an event where people enjoy selflessly and it will be a success. Yet, schedule a charity situation and everyone becomes to busy bar a handful of them... But, regardless, TheFanatics came to help. 5 guys spent R300 each today? Thats R1500 more than you would have normally made.

Ralf, honestly, i wish you and Speedway all the best. From yesterdays event, it is on common ground that there are much more issues lying at your business.

Firstly, you are not in-charge, you are merely the admin clerk. Your staff run the shop.

Your staff run the shop to their advantage. They call the shots. This is simple as they receive a salary regardless of how you manage to dig out the funds.

Closing the doors at 2:30pm when the event was scheduled to go until 4pm just shows you have no control of YOUR store. Gavin being turned away by staff and to add, after i chatted to you about it, your staff still didnt call Gavin. Un-called for... Bad taste Ralf, really!

From TheFanatics Events, thank you to those that took the time to attend. Apologies to those that drove all the way, even it was 2km and was turned away or found shut doors. Be proud that you tried...

.... by the look of things, that shop isn't run well. Bad management. Bad staff. It's not going to work. Full stop.

Hey guys, it might not be a good idea to have comment in an open forum about how a guy runs his shop when it's clear the guy needs assistance. Granted, there could be improvement but I feel such constructive comments can be done offline.

Let's not kick a guy when he's down hey. A hard lesson I had to learn early on in life is that when you are in a rut, it's fucking hard to get out of it. So a little compassion and understanding of Ralph's current frame of mind will also help.

Truth be told, I got an excellent result out of the event - outside of the actual work done on the car. Let's take this home and if there is constructive advice to give, let's do so in a responsible way. We can all agree Ralph wouldn't be in this position if he made changes to the way he runs his business. Flogging a dead horse, however, doesn't help.

Just my 2c...

I've always received top service from Ralf and Jackson whenever I was at Speedway including yesterday.
If the alignment guy was so sloppy, he would have just aligned it with the damaged LCAs instead of warning me before hand.

Hi,

I was there in good time. I did not get helped and was turned away 4 hours give or take before closure #Fact. And yes this was later rectified but I will have you know that there was a sour taste left and there was no going back - I can't exempt bad attitude no matter who it is.

As for the business itself I will chose to refrain from making any comments but this whole conversation about an "Ice Cream Run" is utter nonsense. If that was the case why not we all sell every material object we have and donate it to charity? Why not do that guys? Compare apples with apples... Its really not that difficult. Two completely different events.

The reality is that everyone is entitled to do as they please. This is a free world in a sense and you cannot pass judgment on someone attending an ice cream meet (after hours on a Friday night) vs something on a Saturday - One of the only days people get to rest and be with their families. Really... Take the time analyse the purpose for each event and the market it speaks to... We are car enthusiasts supposedly... Its not rocket science to establish the preference and ease to attend one over the other so stop comparing them... Simple.

I believe that I am just in saying the above as I attended both meets. Made the time, left my religious commitments at church to attend and support a fanatic. I was turned away and thats a fact.

My synopsis on the event is that there was no alignment between staff and the purpose of the day - They really didn't see the value in us being there and this is a perception. It was clear to see that. No pun intended on alignment...

Over and Out and Good luck...

The point about helping or giving is not expecting something in return.
this forum is supposed to be more then just our passion abt cars,

But yes everyone has his/her own agenda for being on here, Im slowly realizing that.

Clifton, very true. We did not expect anything in return, except for some hospitality!

What you say is true. We can`t compare a ice cream run with a meetup. But the fact is that and I say this with all the respect of all the true members on here, as soon as you put a run into the event you pull numbers, Why?????? I dont know. Call it the racing part or something but thats a fact.

This is not the first event and I can assure you it wont be the last that just doesnt get any attendance except the usual bunch.

My fiance was in pain with the birth of our little one around the corner and even she took the time and pain of the odd 50 km round trip to come with me to assist and help a fellow fanatic out.

Like said on numerous occasions this forum becomes like a family and its always good to see people and meet new ones. And yes each to his own with family time and all that. But arent we a family forum? Where the wife and kids are welcome to join in on events? And talking about family time some guys on here know what type of hours I work and even after a 20 hour shift I still took the time to spend an hour or so at an event that might hlp a friend out of the dwang.

Yes there are some problems, but isnt it our duty as friends to Ralph to show that out to him in private and try and see if we can help with it, rather than come here and drag the name Speedway through the mud?

I echo your sentiments Thunder. There's absolutely no need to give Ralf advice on a public platform. There's the phone call and PM function for that.

If only you fanatics knew how Ralf is feeling right now.

Frankly if this the kind of treatment that fanatics give to other fanatics, then what's the point calling ourselves Fanatics:thumbdo:
