Hi,

I heard a month ago that BMW are selling original BMW mudflaps for around R1600 per set for the E90's.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dean,
They came with the car. I actually removed them on Saturday to see if I like the look or not. Wasn't considering selling them but if you are keen, we can talk ?

Thanks

Vader got some new wheels & an exhaust system recently - will update thread soonest ...
All I can say is that if anyone with a 320D is still thinking about the DP/Decat & 63mm exhaust, STOP ! Just go do it ! WELL worth it

Ok, sorry for the delay gents, as stated earlier, just extremely hectic at the moment ! But you know when I do eventually post, it will be a LONG one, so buckle up !
:)
Dewald, too true bru, but more on that below … ;)
As for the lights, nah, I absolutely love the full red LCI rear lights and like the contrast
With the purchase of our new place, I figured I better get things I need / want to get done on the cars ASAP, as will be a while before anything major can happen – and the Rand’s decline making it even worst !
:RedNo:
First up, tekkies – I never understood the hate for RFT’s & people complaining they are hard – I’m used to driving small cars with big rims, small sidewalls and lowered suspensions, so the stock 17” RFT’s on Vader were great !
But there is a rim I really wanted, and when I finally found it, it was either now or 5 years from now, so decided to go for it
It’s the old X5 19” concave 9J front & 10J rear. 162's I think. Kak heavy rims but love how they look on an E90, JUST the right proportions IMHO
I was worried about was how harsh the 30 profile rear tyres were going to be, especially on a daily family car. Got some Toyo Proxes T1S from Minty’s Sandton where I always get outstanding service & pricing. Running spacers 15mm front & 12mm rear but still waiting on the perfect bolts which will hopefully be here in 2 weeks. A few things :
1) Rims didn’t look as good as they did on gumtree and will need a refurb
2) First impression, DAYMN, RFT’s suck ! Can’t believe how much the ride has improved even with the much smaller sidewall !
3) Unfortunately no proper pics yet other than these crap cellphone ones, sorry guys
4) Thanks to Firi & Ash for their help & patience with the spacers

Gumtree ad – the look I want, like a black chrome – hopefully around December

Next up, the pipe – last year I only did the 63mm Powerflow rear box and tailpiece. I really wanted a TMSS system, and the guy’s were great with their feedback and pricing, but unfortunately was just out of my budget.
Back to Powerflow it was and I am REALLY pleased with the outcome. My previous daily was a Micra DCI with the 1.5 engine – on there we did a 50mm DP, decat, rear box and the car sounded a lot better without being really louder, and I got a wider powerband, slightly better throttle response, and slightly better fuel consumption, which was what I wanted from this system as well. I was a bit hesistant with ONE thing though and that was lag, which I experienced more on wide open throttle in the Micra.

Instead I got all the good stuff, but sort of amplified compared to before ! AND what I didn’t expect was the extra killerwatts ! Bum dyno says it’s not much, probably single digits, but the car feels SO much more alive ! Sound is perfect – stock like with normal throttle openings but a slightly deeper tone when opening up, somewhat like stock N/A bmw 6 cylinder. You hear the turbo spool up much nicer on initial throttle too. About 0.2l/100km better on fuel so far. Lag not an issue unless the auto changes to a high gear too early but rarely happens, almost never, but then when it boosts it boosts HARD !
It’s not software like performance increase, but that wasn’t my plan at all and I just LOVE it ! Would highly recommend !
What I can say is that going back to my original post on page 1, is that the car feels very much like a “real” bmw now and yes, I’m getting the driving pleasure thing now

The stock stuff – check how narrow the pipe is in some sections

Since I’ve done some post’s on this thread on my Sabre, for those interested, I did some changes on my old faithful about a month before Vader – in a nutshell, changed from 17’s and the G&M 45mm/40mm springs to 16’s with H&R 30mm+ springs – big difference in ride comfort and practicality

Looks great, thanks for the update, rims look really nice. Vader is a very suitable name, with your car being in all black!

Do you mind sharing the costing for your exhaust for fellow diesel owners wanting to do the same?

When are you planning on doing SW? Would love to get a review on the full package once done! :praise:

Sorry for the delayed response mate - this 2nd section, i.e. DP, 63mm piping to the back costed R2400. Initially when I did the polished rear box, rear mandrel bends and custom tailpiece was around R1900 IIRC
Would love to do SW yesterday already, but just bought a new place so things are TIGHT. AND she will hopefully get the Gearbox service before that, so can't say
:(

Have Vader for 1 year / 28 000km today
Passed 140 000km this morning
Not going to post a long story. To put it simply :
1) Normally after a year, my daily / 2nd vehicle starts to feel a bit dated - with Vader, it's very similar to the Zobre, which I bought over 13 years ago, i.e. better by the day & still feels fresh / puts a smile on my face on every drive
2) The guy's I've met / dealt with on this forum / club - AWESOME !
3) Great decision, God Willing may she stay as lekker & reliable for many many years to come
