PRESS RELEASE: Leo Haese Pretoria BMW Gerotek High Speed Oval Challenge

The guys from Leo Haese Pretoria BMW are bringing you the battle of the year where they will be hosting the BMW Car Club Gauteng when they go up against the Opel Owners Club SA at Gerotek’s notorious high speed oval to see who has the country’s fastest street cars on Sunday 13 June.

The gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down, with the quickest Opel recording 266 km/h around the 3 km banked oval, and the quickest BMW coming in at 263 km/h. But not only can you come and witness some of the quickest cars around doing battle, you are also more that welcome to partake in the event yourself.

There will be various points counting classes for the BMW and Opel brigade, but owners of other fast machinery are also catered for in two open classes that allow you to experience the thrill of doing high speed runs in a safe and controlled environment.

You will be required to pitch up with a roadworthy or trackworthy car, along with your helmet, long sleeved shirt, pants and closed shoes as per MSA rules. We will ask you to part with R50 per car at the gate if you are only going to spectate, and R150 (club members) or R200 (non club member) if you want to partake in the event.

If you already have a valid MSA licence, then that will be it for you, but please note that if you don’t have an MSA licence then you will be required to purchase a day licence at Gerotek for a further R150. For all registration details please log onto www.bmwcarclub.co.za or www.opelownersclub.co.za .

The gates will open at 07h00 for scrutineering and documentation, registration will close at 08h00 sharp with a compulsory driver’s briefing taking place right thereafter. Racing will start at 08h30 and continue till 16h00, with prize giving happening immediately after this.

Food and drink will be available to be purchased during the day, but feel free to bring your own cooler box and skottle and come have some fun with us. And should you want a break from the high speed stuff, then you can mill around and check out the latest BMWs from the Leo Haese Pretoria boys that will also be on display throughout the day.

I got 193km/h in my 316i around gerotek years ago, back when it was an 8valve m40. The guys where shocked when I was running the same speeds as the 325i and 328i cars. I pretty much kept my foot flat through the course.
btw, does it still have that bump on the entrance to the last corner? its a bit unnerving at 160km/h plus!!

Yip, the bump is still there but it's been repaired and not so bad.

In my E87 130i I exited the last bend at 208 km/h and was clocked at 222 km/h. It's freeken awesome fun!
