All right...attempting to put something toegether
1)Hopefully I will be seeing Nadia again tomorrow to get the physical "WHAT I WANT FROM FATHER XMAS" wishlist for the individual inhabitants
Between Dewald and myself we decided that we
attempt to get a personailzed wishlist from all the individuals so that the Xmas will be very personal, instead of of just a generalized donation of general supplies etc.
Once I have the list I will post it and leave it up to the members that will attend to one by one try to scratch
individual items - for specific individuals off the list.
2)Nadia has already given us a more generalized list of items that the centre could do with
there are currently 11 children of various ages living permanently there, and they are true orphans, this home is all they have got until they are an adult and are fit to leave the centre.
male 4yrs old
male 7yrs old
male 8yrs old
female 11yrs old
male 12 years old
male 13 yrs old
female 15 years old
male 16 yrs old
male 17 years old
female 17 yrs old
male 18 yrs old
there is scope for a total of 24 children in total.
under general needs Nadia emphasized that as the children are school going, it is difficult to get school stationary (pens/pencils/colouring pens/crayons/scissors/glue stick etc) and school bags.
3)other welcome items would be
a) Clothing summer and winter and sleepwear, shoes and takkies, socks, underwear...etc...use your imagination
b) General toiletries toothpaste/soap/toothbrush/shampoo/facecloths/towels
c) a comprehensive list of kitchen requirements such as obviously food (jam/butter/sugar/coffee/tea/veggies/tinned food/soup etc)..(even though Nadia did mention that some organizations do donate still sealed but date expired items to the centre), kitchen utensils like cutlery/cups/glasses....cleaning stuff/washing powder
4) then there are household items
At the moment the DSTV is broken, and an old second hand DSTV would be a nice luxury
The swimming pool is operating on a "loan" pool-pump, so a second hand pool-pump looking for a new home
But of all the items THE MOST IMPORTANT (which myself and Dewald thought) is that it should be for the kids, and their personal "wish-list" which we will need to see....before we go ahead and just do generalized purchases of food/clothing etc.
As fas as donations are concerned
option 1 - donate directly to Siphumulele
option 2 - I have volunteered to use the SpeedwayMotorsport business account to act as a collection point, thus transfer into SpeedwayMotorsport business account so that a lump sum can be presented to the centre on behalf of the BMW Fanatics (I would have to naturally subtract ABSA transaction fees so as not to negatively impact the business itself...the accountant might get confused)
I am also trying to get local business that know the house, to commit to donations of "sweet-hampers", meat (local butcher) etc and I am going to try to get the local Kempton Express newsreporter to cover the event, and we intend to acknowledge them on the flyer and in the newspaper report as a means for a bit of extra publicity for whoever helps with donations.
The plan for the day
1)Dewald has updated the flyer/poster
2)Intended meeting point will be in the parking at Speedway Motorsport/Detroit Plaza, gathering from 10h00 for 10h30
3)Depart at 11h00...drive time is about 10-15 minutes
4)Arrive at Siphumulele around 11h15 and park-off
5)show kids our cars
6)hand out gifts...(hopefully individual/personalized gifts)
7)Trying to organize a braai ( as this is what the kids would really love) but for those members that don't do braai - to then bring there own picnic basket.....soft drinks only please, so as not to lead the children into temptation, and to keep the BMWFanatics name respectable
8)Dewald is trying to organize a jumping castle
9)wrap up the festivities around 14h30 - 15h00
as and when things happen and if any member has suggestions then please please let us know and we will see if it is do-able, and we will communicate it here....or in a new thread..
what say yeah all ?
