G20 Software Update

Just received a notification on the my BMW App that there is a software update pending. I'm guessing this will be OTA update. This is for a 2024 G20. Anyone here did this update? What was improved?
Read about how these updates can sometimes corrupt things, delete your profile etc.
Any do's and don'ts while performing the update?

My only experience has been after some update my rear door speakers stopped working. Booked the car in and they updated the software on their side, all sorted now.
Not the same update though but just pointing out the strange world we are in.

OTA updates on vehicles terrify me. I say this having worked in tech almost my whole life :ROFLMAO:. Seeing bricked cars, frozen screens, features disappearing or modules not initialising/failing to update.

Also seeing more and more companies selling your personal data and behavioural patterns. It wouldn't surprise me if some manufacturers were going to do what smartphone companies have done before and actually start removing features or performance to entice upgrading. Testing the waters with subscriptions for heated seats has led to subscriptions for high beam assist (!) Parking Assistant Professional, M Adaptive Suspension (some of these are in different languages).

I totally understand real time traffic info, map updates and other connected functionality having some ongoing cost. However, all these are hardware features of the car and require ZERO data or platform access to operate. At least there is an 'unlimited option'. Wait until the unlimited option gets removed in some new feature update! This is now in 2024 AFTER they claimed they were going to totally not do this back in 2023 after the heated seat controversy :ROFLMAO:. Its a matter of time before they do what Peloton, for instance, does - ask the new owner to pay a 'reactivation' fee for all the shit the previous owner subscribed to on their profile.

Welcome to the future. Where are all those guys thirsty for TeCh?

I have done a few of the updates. No issues.

You can read the update details, it tells you what it is for.

The g20 was riddled with software glitches when I got it. After the updates most if not all have been resolved.

I do the updates as well on both 2022 X3 and 2024 G87 M2 no issues thus far. Like KarshS said these updates fix certain software glitches and sometimes even add new functionality and features to the I-drive systems
