I was under the impression majority of leather in modern cars is indeed synthetic? BMW Dakota has to be synthetic, can't be real, feels like plastic. Not sure about Nappa, I like the feel of it more though!

Dakota is genuine leather, but not from the softest cuts of skin. It is treated to give its final look. It is designed to be a hard wearing leather.

I had Nappa (aftermarket fitted) on my TT, A3 Sedan and now my CX5. Nappa has more give, feels supple, but does wear well over time. Though, not as tough or durable as Dakota (on my F30).

my oupa had one of these in a champagne colour with crisp white sheepskin covers.

Please let us know when you find the supplier for the covers, Im gonna put some on my G20 in a few years.

Bmw have lost the plot. Those Chev utility instrument cluster dials in the G20 are disgusting. They really don’t know where they going.

Sad that people who want a new BMW have to buy that!

It is sad that BMW are now making Leathertec (fake leather) standard on the 3-series. In the F30, it was only the 316i/318i that had this fake stuff. I see that both the new 320d and 330i now come with Leathertec as standard.

Call me old fashioned, but if I am paying over R500k for a new car, I want to know that a few animals were sacrificed in the process for my comfort. It need not be fine grade Nappa leather, but a corrected hide (like Dakota) would suffice for me as a standard upholstery.

Merc are also guilty of this trend - all C-Class models, besides the AMGs, come with synthetic leather as standard.

I wonder if this change is driven by cost or by the tree-hugger Millennial brigade?
