i dont have experience on this matter but it doesn't sound like slightly less performance...seems like the only reason to take the D is economy.

Fuel consumption sounds hectic. No where near the manufacturer claims.

Claimed and actual figures rarely, if ever, match up.

Bare in mind that these figures are "test figures" as well, so various performance tests were done when obtaining those figures.
