G20 330i Power

Evening guys

It’s been a while since I last posted on this forum. This past Sunday, I attended the Overboost Run (Durban), from petrolport in Nandi drive to Salt Rock mall. It was quite a fun run, we took 2 M135i’s and a G20 330i with us. Along the way, one of the 135’s and the 330i decided to have a rolling race. Obviously the 135 won, but what surprised us is how responsive and quick that G20 330i is for a stock car, it put up a good fight I have to admit.

After that I went for a drive in the 330i, and damn that car pulls. You would think it’s got more than the stated 190kw by Bmw. My friends and I were discussing it and we thought it’s possible that it’s got much more than 190kw, maybe even in the 200kw range. It just feels so much more faster.

But even before this run, I drove my cousin’s G20 330i and I can honestly say that it feels much faster than just 190kw. It might not feel as fast as a M135i, but it feels just under there. I think Bmw might have understated the power on it.

So what do you guys think, could it be possible that Bmw understates the power figure on the G20 330i or not ?

B-series motors are state of the art stuff. The B48s found in the 330i must surely be a high performance variant.

I think, maybe, BMW are now quoting Wheel output and not Flywheel output, like they used to. It's more realistic coz they're accounting for drivetrain loss. From the dynos I've seen in SA the power is always down but the torque is always higher than the quoted figures.
B58s are quoted from as low as 250KW and actually put out those numbers on the dyno, altitude or coast.
