Fuel Consumption

Hi all,

I wanted to know if what the onboard computer states is accurate?
Whenever I look at the fuel consumption it always says 7.6l/100km... does it ever go lower than that???? What can I do to make it lower than that?

I'm from a smaller 1.9Tdi (45l) and I would get +/-1100km on a tank on the highway and +/-750-800km urban. I feel like beemer is thirsty!

Or is it the fact that its a Automatic box?

Thanks in advanced

All depends on where and how you drive. We went down to the coast last week with our 320d and had a average consumption of 5.1L/100km.
So 7.6l on a combined cycle is not that bad.

7.6l/100km = thirsty?? Bud your probably driving the paris hilton of BMW's. Thats very low consumption. If the onboard computer is bugging u i think you just need to reset the computer if im not mistaken. Otherwise it will take the combined figure of all the driving youve ever done. If u reset it like mine then it will start calculating again from then and onwards

Mdu, you need to reset for every trip you want it to check out on, you can also reset the average speed in the same manner as how the fuel consumption goes, just press the button on the indicator stalk till you get to the ave speed or ave consumption and hold the button in till all the digits go away and it displays --.- l/100km. takes a couple seconds.

your fuel consumption is really good...

Hmmm maybe I'm still hung on the 1.9Tdi...hmmm
Let me give it time and see.
Last night the petrol light came on and I went to the Garage and gooied 20l (R200.00) the gauge went up close to Half tank. I then drove +/-60 from the time gooied till now and the needle is now nearing the quarter tank just 1 line to quarter tank.

Its a beemer. Not a chico. BMW can build anything in this world except for an economical engine.

That 1.9tdi is probably the most frugal engine ever built. I dont think Audi can even repeat what they did with that motor.

The difference is in the performance though. Your beemer has insane power and loads of it where the Audi had a "nice" power band for about 2000rpm and then died like you hit a brick wall.

eheheheh I hear you...
Let me give it some time.

If I drive my 320d very nicely I get about 7.4 l/100km's if I drive normally which means a bit more agressivly I get 8.5.

But my car has only done 1700 KM's I am hopeing it gets better when everything runs in a bit
