If you drive a diesel like that, the math makes sense:
Diesel: 4572km @ 17,85km/l = 256.13liter @ R9-80/l = R2510
Petrol: 4572km @ (say) 11km/l = 415liter @ R9-50/l = R3943
Saving of R1433 RIGHT THERE. Now take into account your diesel needs to be serviced at 15k intervals and the petrol at 25k intervals, and a service costs R2500 (at the dealer), then the petrol costs 10c per km for the service and the diesel 17c per km.
The saving of the 7c per km for service cost on the petrol does not make up for the loss of 31c per km which the petrol is heavier on the juice...
Sure the turbo will go at 160k km (or even more), but then you already had a saving of R38400 over the petrol model.
But, (BIG BUTTT), this means that you have to drive old lady style, ALWAYS.
Now don't tell me the smile that the diesel torque gives you is not worth the lesser fuel consumption
