Fuel consumption: Not filling your tank

This makes me think of the CF thread in terms of weight reduction.
How much weight do you really need to shave off to make a noticable difference? By throwing the toothpicks out the cabual ?

I would say you need to get rid of a lot more than ~30kg of fuel to make that difference. More like 150 - 200kg's...

Just fill up each time the tank is closing in on 1/4.

Your formula is way too simple to take everything into account. The formula is assuming the ground has no effect on the drag, which is a uber lie. When the car is lower, the effect of drag caused by the ground is less, probably due to less turbulance behind as well. It is a common phenomenan I have seen that a lower car has a higher top speed.... But all the formulas are just estimations, otherwise they wouldn't ever have to test anything, they would just use formulas on google

I have noticed a change in consumption for the worse after installing sound in my 320i and thats just 1X12" sub in box and a amp, i have also noticed that uphills are more of a battle.

I think that any amount of weight change can influence the fuel consumption on your car and power although some cars are so powerful that the influence that the weight has is hardly noticeable but there will be a change.

I guess i notice the weight difference more because the compression rings are already messed up on my 320i....need to sort that out....

Yes you guys write right..!

The longitudinal forces acting on the car should include...

Tractional force (depends on drive-train efficiency and vehicle weight)
Area drag (depends frontal area, shape and speed)
Downforce/Lift drag (depends on area, shape and therefore weight)
Rolling Resistance(depends on tire characteristics, pressure and speed)
Gradient (if on non flat road)
Cornering forces (if not on straight road)
Wind direction and speed
Where on earth you are (gravity acceleration changes)
etc.

Fortunately some cars today have OBCs that make guessing a lot easier/practical
than doing complex mathemagics with a lot of assumptions.

Why do you think i appreciate my E36's OBC so much..?
