Ford Figo timing belt replacement

Hello everyone

A friend of mine took her 2012 Figo 1.4 in for a service and were told that the timing belt has to be replaced at xxx km or 5 years. Hers is at about 75k km. From what I could gather the timing belt should be replaced at either 100k/120k km or indeed after 5 years.

It seems strange that the belt has to be replaced at a fixed term of 5 years regardless of distance travelled.

Does anyone have info about the following:
* service schedule
* online Ford forum

Thanks in advance!

they get brittle over time, do the belt its way cheaper than having to get all her valves replaced...

Agree with Nick on this.

I know it's MOER expensive to do through the dealerships...so maybe if the car is out of warrantee then have it done elsewhere, like at Leo Haese Hatfield. :rollsmile:

I'm all for preventative maintenance but this is the first time I've heard about replacing a timing belt at a fixed time interval rather on mileage.

I'm planning to do it myself at some time - should be able to do the job at less than 1/3 of the cost. The last time I replaced a timing belt was way back when I drove a Jetta 2. Am looking for online resources to familiarize myself with the job first.

Edit: the car is out of warranty.

its falls at what ever comes 1st 5years/100k.

Most people will do 100k before the 5 years, so its s fail safe.

My wifes Figo went in for the cambelt service a couple of weeks back.
Car had 95kkm on at the time and also 5 years old now.

John from Bosch Hatfield ( Leo Haese) did the job for me and gave me and excellent price.

Some people drive less than 100kkm in the 5 year period but the belt still degrades over time regardless of distance travelled.

Remember to do tensioner and aux blets while your at it.

As above. Whatever comes first. Wife's Jetta only had 22000 miles or something at 4 years and we did the belt even though the mileage was so low purely based on time. Spend the money, peace of mind. Dont skimp on timing belts.
