Thanks Doomsdaya for putting my mind at ease. I'm going to order 2 new control-arms from the stealers on Monday. I don't trust anyone to pressfit around here anymore...

I thought that BMW didn't fit ball-joints? I went to them for ball-joints and they told me they only sell complete arms, but they could sell me the bushes seperately?

P1000@ Do you think that could be it? The guy who did the alignment said my thrust angle should be 0 deg and mine was way off...that's what prompted the camber adjustment apparently. When I'm able I post the alignment report too.

How did they adjust your camber? They usually bend it back into shape, and they don't really care for the damage they do in the process. The reports will not show how they did it... Sometimes they will warn you upfront that the process might damage some parts, and it usually does...

The technician didn't say...

Where does this leave me now. I'll repair the car (new control-arms/fender repair/respray), but now how do I know I won't shear off another ball-joint? What checks can be made because right now I'm not sure if it's the alignment guy or the pressfit guy to blame...?

Thanx Moranor. What do you mean at the back?

Doomsdaya, yah that missing beading...eish...yeah the fender damage isn't to bad but I'm fitting a new fender.

I'm VERY HAPPY to say that the car drives fine, no vibrations, knocking sounds, steering doesn't pull to one side...However I wasn't brave enough to do more than 130km/h, let alone push it in corners...that'll have to wait till I fit a new control-arm on the left. Oh and now I'm paranoid about my tie-rods because they aren't OEM...

...and those bloody squirrels!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i thin ur suspension must have put strain on the ball joints. Similar thing happened to me where the control ; ball joint broke off completely.Luckily i was in my driveway.

I paid around 4k ; but my insurance covered it as i told them a pothole has to be the culprit. They submitted and paid out.

glad to hear you all sorted. safe driving.

I might be agree on the strain, but it was a newly pressfitted ball-joint (hadn't driven more than 1000kms with it). In my mind it's either the quality of the ball-joint (not OEM), or it's fitment, or both...or maybe there's something else that's fundamentally wrong???? The only things I haven't yet replaced are gearbox mountings, subframe mountings, and stabiliser bushes.
So to be safe I'll fit a new OEM control arm on the left as well. Hopefully I won't have any issues after that...
