Is there anything I need to know about filling up with Diesel? Are there different types of diesel and who usually stocks them? I have a F30 330d.

A client of mine mentioned ppm and Sasol. I said HUH?

Use 50ppm or 10ppm(only available at Sasol)

Note: garages dont charge the same amount on diesel, so you can try to find cheapest garage in your area e.g Caltex

If I can find a Sasol garage, I fill up there.I get the best consumption on 10ppm however, Kimberley doesn't stock the 10's, so I have to settle for 50ppm. Cheapest diesel I find are normally @ Sasol garages as well...my 2c

From what I've been told, 10/50ppm are better for your car and the environment but 500ppm is better for performance. I'd say just get 50ppm from a busy garage in your area as a busy garage will always have fresh fuel.

Running 500ppm on a car without a DPF delete will completely screw up the DPF. SINGH911 will confirm. 10 or 50ppm on a stock turbo diesel :coolshake:

From what i have found...

10pp gives you the best consumption, however power is noticeably less.

I rate Shell 50pp the best for performance, however fuel gets chowed quickly.

agreed with bull3ft, on 530d, shell 50ppm is fine but on my bakkie, it makes it to smoke! bakkie loves Sasol but performance goes to dogs!

experiment with most garages and eventually you will find out which one your cab loves

Anyone here has experienced this? I currently fill diesel at Engen (for both 20d and 30d), for the Ebucks but thinking about changing if it’s better for the car. Where’s the latest thinking at in terms of best diesel to use for BMW diesels?

IMO…

I don’t think the performance ‘improvement’ will be significant to change to another brand over convenience. Besides how is this better performance measured ?

Yip agreed, any "performance gain" would be so marginal you could never tell.

There is no evidence to support these gains.

No real difference on my X3 20d with any diesel brand and also not much difference with 10ppm vs 50ppm.

However, on my VAG 3.0 TDI, there is a discernable gain in performance with Sasol 10ppm. Weird...

On my land rover discovery I filled engen and sasol but every 4 tanks I throw a bottle of injector cleaner in and iv been getting same power aswell as same consumption...when I just bought the land rover I never used injector cleaner and I found the 10ppm gave bigger power but used more fuel but not a major difference like 10km difference...after Iv been using the injector cleaner the power is proper aswell as consumption...

Which injector cleaner do you use?

It's liqui Moly...... But you get 2 Types since I'm using it in a land rover and the tank is 85l I buy the bigger bottle it's ment for bakkies it's a stronger concentration and also it's for tanks bigger then 75l ... You can purchase from goldwagen or Midas

A quick search reveals that the main ingredients are of injector cleaning solutions are organic solvents. However, gasoline and diesel are themselves very good solvents. Does anyone how they actually work? Here is some old data that shows that they can work for direct injected petrol engines. https://saemobilus.sae.org/content/2000-01-2020/
