So, 2018 was pretty uneventful up until November.

On the day of our BMWFanatics Private Raceday at ODI, A truck had a blow out and I picked up his tyre in an effort to give it back to him. Needless to say, I was distraught at the time of the incident and just when I looked at the car my heart sank. The damage wasn’t really bad, but any damage is always too much, even the slightest of dents.

One thing you got to be grateful for though, is our family here at BMWFanatics. I was trailing at almost the end of the convoy, but everyone pulled over and reversed when they seen me stop on the emergency lane. I picked up what I could of the bumper, grills and splitter laying around, and chucked it in the car and began offloading the gazebo etc that was supposed to the racetrack and hit it back home. Needless to say, our family wouldn’t have that, and insisted that we closer to the track then home, so they all followed me to the venue at a snail’s pace. Jokes were cracked, new friends made, old friends kept offering me their rides to take down which I declined, but made extremely happy to have such friends around.

Drove her back home at 1.30pm and Jody followed me for most of the way (thanks again bro). The car went in 2 days later to the panel beater and my insurance took their merry time to get the claim approved, by the time they did, the panel shop was closing for the festive season. This mean that I was going to be with the 1er for further 3 weeks before they opened. On the 14th Jan, I get a call saying the OEM Performance bumper is no longer available, needless to say I was pissed when I was offered a stock non-m sport bumper in its stead. That would just not do.

Got a hold of Zaahier and Rennzport sorted me out with a 1m Bumper front bumper and a set of dual slat grills. I also opted to keep my Fog light delete I’ve been running since we purchased the car, so I purchased 2 oem BMW 1M brake ducts scoops for the bumper. We got these moulded on the bumper and got it sprayed. The rear bumper was also sprayed to my bros cat scratching it hell and gone. Got the car back last week and decided to get everything I wanted to done before I bring let resume normal daily duties.

1st up was the exhaust. I’ve been meaning to get this done for ages but just don’t find the time, so decided it’s now or never. Called Nishen from TMSS and setup a booking for the car. Explained what I was looking for and Nishen set about working his magic. One thing I really wanted to do was the Morrit Mod. What the MM entails is keeping a downward facing outlet for the exhaust, but fitting dummy tips to car so its still looks good. I opted to go for the burnt titanium look make them dual 90mm exhausts. Within 2 days the car was ready for collection and needless to say, TMSS doesn’t disappoint. Nishen kept me up to date with whatever was being done, including sorting out the already fitted downpipe by removing the taper that was currently on it and making it the same diameter as the new exhaust.

Onto the pics

That performance bumper was killer, but the quality and fitment of the 1m is also awesome. Great stuff Firi.

The tinkering never stops.

So in November a few Fanatics decided to attend a dyno night at Dyno sport. It was the 1st time I was putting her on since flashing the car with stealth software and was eager to see what she does.

She churned out a respectable 133wkw and 430nm on the wheels.

Whilst my car drove, what I "thought" was fine, it smoked a lot on idle and when driving, and needless to say quite a bit when doing so in a spirited manner. The smoking really started working on my nerves, so I knew a new file was going to be loaded and also who was gonna do it.

Contact was made with Alex from madness Motorsport and boy does this guy know what's customer service. Alex was aware of my crazy work schedule and in ability to actually go to him, to my surprise, he says not a problem, I'll be there to collect the car tomorrow. He leaves with his 7 series at home (which I did not dare use ), and takes the 1er off to get some magic worked on her. We had a few hiccups with The previous flash and the company not wanted to release my original stock file and was left thoroughly dissaponted in their service, but Alex worked through it and obtained another stock file for me.

It was brought to our attention that the previous whilst it delivered power, and did so very harshly, it wasn't doing it in a safe manner at all was a generic copy and paste file. This is where the magic started and being an owner of a another car which runs a JB4, I love to hear it that a car will be tuned according to its logs that will be run. Alex kept her for 3 days to work out all the gremlins and delivered her back home only when he was happy and confident that she was running the way she should be. I was informed of all the progress and pictures and videos were sent regularly.

It's not very often you get or even come across this type of service in any market, let alone the tuning game, and thus is very refreshing to see another company joining the ranks and knowing what it means to deal with clients. Big up to madness motorpsort and I sincerly hope to see them as an advertiser her shortly, I can only see good things coming from their stable.

Right power figures, so we ran the car again with the stock file on the SR Speedworx dyno, and then loaded the new file and ran it. It made 9wkw and 19nm more torque, but best of all... Nowhere near as much smoke...

Last week was a cracker of a week. I've been wanting 19inch wheels on the 1er for a long time, but as most know, 1 and 2 series reps in SA just don't come with the correct offsets and I didn't want to fit narrower tyres to try and make them fit.

The inforge 18s were a good fit, but I felt they were not going well with the new bumper and so the hunt started for an Oem after market rim. Zaahier and I started looking and within a few days we finalized a style. My wife, Zaahier and @R!yo were adament that we go gunmetal to break it up a bit and I was but reluctant.

We settled on a set of 19" Vmrs in GUNMETAL with perfect offsets for a 1 series and I decided to wrap them in Goodyear F1s.

Specs of Rims
19 x 8.5j x ET 45
19 x 9.5J x ET 50

Specs of Tyres
