Good to see you are back Kobus.

A word of caution - those cars are WANTED..! First thing you should do is protect it from thieves.
My friend's E30 got stolen about a month ago from a parking lot. The cops did nothing to try and catch the thieves
They even had a couple of pictures from different security cameras, but just could not be bothered..!

Anyways good luck and see you soon somewhere in bmw land.

Hey Kobus.
Welcome back. Nice car you have there.
Does it have any rust?
I would opt for shadowline trim (not an iS kit please) where the bumpers and everything is white apart from the rubber strips.
Go for 15" wheels or 16" max. These cars drives very badly on 17" and the consumption also suffers.
Seems like your dashboard is still intact. That is worth a R bazillion

Thanx Guys

Yes, I would like to sort out the two tone as well.

W.r.t to being stolen, well yes, that is a fact of life in SA. All that I know is that if they do try to steel mine, and I happen to catch them, they will never be heard of, again................

I was also contimplating what kit, and the shadowline kit could work. I've seen that the Mtech 2 kit is for the 90's models (plastic bumber), a they are a bit more rounder than the 80's models (chrome bumber). Wheel size, I'll see.

For now it is sorting out all the niggles first like the left back break that needs replacing. But, I will like to redo the entire car eventualy.

Maybe some suggestions as to colour for the car, or must I keep it white ? Some pics of kits and wheels will also be appreciated. I was thinking of making all the chrome bits around the windows and kidney grill matt black or satin black. What you think ?

Could be '87. My mom has an '87 chrome bumper.

I vote keep it white Kobus.

It's a '88. The Plastic bumpers started in '89. They also changed the revers lights from vertical to horisontal. That is the fastest that you can distinguish them. A lot of people put plastic bumbers on the chromies, and that is the easiest way of telling them appart.

Well, my view on color changes.

If you are going to drastically change the color of a car, thats a complete strip down.

Like what M3M5 did, if you do it like that, and take out the engine, the complete interior, and have a shell, then by all means make it any color that you like,

But dont spray the car on the outside one color and as soon as you open the doors its actually another....

@ Leonard - I agree with you 100%. That is how I would also like to do it, but what would something like that cost ? If I only do the outer respray, I would leave it white.

So, I have started with some replacement of some worn parts.

16 new wheel studs
New steering rack boots
New front brake disks and pads
New rear brake disks and pads and shoes
Flushed the brake system
New Monroe shocks front and back
Installed wiring for reverse lights
Fastend gearbox bell housing
Repaired and refurbished the mags
New battery
Replaced the driver side mirror.

Still along way to go. Finally figured out what the noise at the back suspension was. Sounds like the crown wheel and pinion on the diff is finished.

All the work was done by Chris and his team from Carnetics in Centurion. Very nice guys with top notch work.

Now the car looks like it did in the earlier pics. Sorry for the crappy cell pic.

Next I want to sort the springs as the car needs to be dropped a little in the front.

Wow! Awesome she is a looker, congrats mate.

In regards to color etc I vote go back to full white, paint window chrome either gloss black or leave it chrome matches the chrome bumpers nicely, if it was a plastic bumper then I would say window trim has to be shadowline but on the chrome bumpers hmmmm, no kit, just some nice suspension H&R and some nice wheels.

These cars look so good, stock with a drop and diff wheels.. (FL i know but I hope you see where I'm going with this :=):

or with a Mtech 1 kit.. :in-love:

I have a soft spot for these cars, and the older they get the harder it becomes to find a decent one, spend the money restoring her as much as you can, not modding her.

BTW good suspension and wheels are not mods in my book they're neccesities :=):

I wouldn't mess too much with perfection :=):

Many happy miles bud!

Oooh, love the look of hte M-tech I, personally I prefer it over the more prevalent M-tech II.

Awesome work getting things sorted, and I have to say I really like the sound of you car.
