I think they will only allow you to extend it for 2 years minimum if its only time then it will be cheap but the issue when I tried it a few years back is thatyou have to have 20000km's left before you hit 100000 before they will extend time only

But try anyway these rules cahnge all the time

We extended our E46 for an extra year when it had less than 80K Km on it :)

Then after that year, we extended it another year..

So max is 7 years..

Same with the E60.. did it the other day when it had 74K km on it.. for another year..

Another thing that comes to mind is if the cats should break should i remove them completely and what effect wil this have on the car.
Thanks a mill for all the input so far, promise u guys a proper pick update as soon as ive recieved the car,im so excited now can hardly sleep at night since its my first car aswell.

Cats don't just break :) then normally just start getting blocked..

On a diesel, removing cats (from branches & exhaust) from what I have read, keeps the turbo temperature down as the EGT will be lower.. as the exhaust will flow a bit free'er...

But motorplan will not allow you to remove the cats..

So Extend for 1 year, then complain about everything & get as many things replaced as possible.. then after the year... you do full Decat & EGR delete & swirl flaps delete..

50 ppm! True, the sulphur in the diesel is like the lead that was in petrol in terms of lubricating properties - these engines are considered the "new gen" when it comes to sulphur content. The odd tank full of 500 ppm will still contaminate the oil quicker than 50 ppm and particulate filter which does regenerate or clean itself when driven on the open road - remember seeing a polo diesel with a white exhaust from this (looks the same as the white exhaust from the days of leaded petrol).

Put it this way, I use 50 ppm in my Isuzu which is the slightly older engine (D-Max non common-rail) and she is happy with this. One thing that is a known problem with 50 ppm mostly at smaller "out of town" filling stations is that they tend to thin it out with paraffin - this makes the fuel very abrasive and over time will lead to damaged fuel pump and injectors. What the 4x4 guys apparently do is add a little 2-stroke oil (good quality non synthetic) with each tank full or every other tank full. The ratio various, but for instance, 250 ml added to a 50 - 60 ltr tank of 50 ppm. Reason for non synthetic is that you want it to burn easily with the diesel during combustion.

I haven't felt the need to do this and reckon as long as you are filling up at a "trustworthy" filling station with 50 ppm you should be fine. Of course, adding 2-stroke is kind of a do-it-at-own-risk, but many swear by it!

Congrats man good choice

My Advice to you is extend the time on the motor plan you can still do it for another 2 years and it will not cost a lot. It will be about between R3k and R6k

Then you should be able to get rid of any issue in the next 14k km's

Just a small update, got the car on friday and man have I been driving this weekend, did lots of nice scenic routes at cape point and am absolutely in love with the torque this car delivers, especially on slightly inclined roads, wil upload pics asap but the driving is keeping me busy for now.

Wil get to extending the motorplan in the next week or so,can I basicly go anytime before the current one runs out and is motor plan automaticaly transfered to my name when I buy the car?
