But then again, my E30 is on 400 + km and the engine seems to be just properly run-in now :biglol:

Well I'm hoping that these are the last of my worries for another 50k km...though that is wishful thinking!

Next time I'm anticipating maintenance I'll ask around for more quotes.

Where did you take the car to? Does Speedway Motorsport also not do jobs like this, or were they not able to refer you to honest people if they don't?

What did you have done on the car so far maintenance-wise? Sounds like you are the second or 3rd owner, lucky chap

I'm based in Pretoria, I took it to a German mechanic in PTA East, Markus, nice guy.

The company is called Das Grüne Autohaus.

They did some work on my old VW a few years ago and I was pleased with his work.

We'll see how Julia does with them. The rear wheel bearings were buggered.

We shall have to see... *sigh*

Since I got the car:

- fixed the driver's door lock...it didn't lock at all

- had the head cover gasket and (APPARENTLY) the oil sump gasket replaced...it still leaks oil and I don't trust the guy to fix it if I took it back, so I'm never going back.

- fitted 4x Michelin Primacy 3's to the car - the old tires were OLD, probably the second set to ever go on!

I'm the second owner, is has FSH, but no owner's manual! :biglol:

Well, if you trust the guy it is a good place to go, otherwise you can hook up with a "spinning crew" member in your area - those guys need mechanics who know their way very well around a BMW's running gear, and they don't charge a fortune to do the job.

I was lucky to find a good mechanic with one of them, but others can be a bit dodgy ... but that it is like that with all mechanics - you get the good ones and then you get the ones who see $$$ signs when you pull up to their shop with a BMW :hammerhead:

Wow, if this car is this impressive while it is "limping" I can only imagine how impressed I will be if it is sorted :joy:

I'm still trying to understand why your car has a viscous fan when mine does not

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk

Don't worry it does not have one anymore, it disintegrated under load, so I bought and installed an electric one.

Something positive amongst all the negativity in our country:

What fun did you have with your BMW today, what has impressed you about your BMW and continues to impress you?

Hehe let's think.

The rasp I get from the exhaust under full acceleration in 1st gear once it hits 4k rpm. Gets me EVERY TIME. I'm thinking of straight piping it but am afraid of not ever being able to restore it to stock.

Ummm ooh! It hit 120k km last week and DIDN'T blow up!

Burnt new CDs for the changer. Love how everything still works even though it's 13 years old <3

That's me

Does yours also do that little sort of pop sound between gears when you momentarily back off the accelerator, I really like that, +1 on your comment about the car being 13 years old :coolShake:
