hi,

I need an honest opinion for a price from the forum.

Background:
A family member is looking to retire and relocate overseas.
His pride and joy needs to be sold. 1996 318is auto
He has asked me what is a realistic price and i cant tell him, E36 prices are all over the show.

-100% original
-One owner
-Accident free
-FSH at the dealers
-Extras: tow bar, gear lock, mud flaps , boot spoiler, rear head rests.
-112000km on clock
-Boston green
-Metallic paint
-garaged and used +- once per month
-Immaculate condition in & out

Now for my honest opinion, you will not find a better E36 on the road, period.
And that is the issue i have with the price evaluation.

I think a good price for this car both for the seller and buyer is about R45 to R50k. I sold a mint 1998 318iS manual shift a few years ago to one of the Forumites but cannot remember the price (think it was about R42k). Mileage was also very low, also around 120k kms iirc. Although, having said that, these cars, especially the 328i and 318iS seem to be a collector's items and could be worth more. It is a case of what is the potential buyer willing to pay for the car. For some the auto is a plus, for other a minus. Horses for courses. My 2c's for what it is worth! This car should go to an enthusiast!

Seeing as whats out there in temrs of E36's, I would guestimate around R90 000 should be an aaceptable price.

Examples:

amazing example by the way!
Hope it goes to someone who will keep it in this pristine condition and low milleage.

Personally i would say that the 318is and non Msport e36's will never be regarded as a collectors car.
That being said i think this would make a fantastic daily for someone. That 318is engine is bullet proof and actually very nippy.
I feel its a better engine compared to the 320i and 323i.
Auto can be a put off for many.

The Original Motorsports 318is/328i and the M3 can fetch decent money these days. That being said i dont see any issues with asking 65k for this car.
If you look at whats available in the 50k range its absolute rubbish.
