Friend just sent me the above link. I know that this has been an issue for years but I guess they are finally being forced to fix it. Doubt this will hit SA, they probably wouldn't care unless they were forced to :dunno:

Doubt we will see this happen here, and even if it does, I wouldn't want BMW near my car, chances are they might just stuff it up worse.

Exactly, BMW have a tendency to not do the best work, don't want to know what their work will be like if they are forced to do it for free :nonono:

Really funny that they only do it now. Makes me think twice about the caring nature of BMW since the car is long out of any type of service plan and why should they care.

Then again, maybe they score some brownie point with Joe Public as this is a MINOR repair. They probably already have the thousands of additional earth wires made up and it's a 5 minute swop when the customer arrives.

BMW was additionally probably also forced onto this one as failing tail lights is a big deal in roadworthy.

My ex E46 318 F/L had this problem, I happened to actually have the 8 pin connector at home and did a quick DIY. The whole plastic housing melted onto the plastic tail light cover. When I checked up at BMW they said that someone may have incorrectly did a connection before I owned the car, useless buggers :nonono:

I would give them brownie points if they do a recall on the GM boxes... (Caddillac had a couple of recalls on them, BMW just said "there is no problem" despite a lot of boxes failing...)
