Faded Rubber Window Trin

Hi guys,

Total newb here - to the forums and BMs.

Picked up a 2015 F20 118i in February. I noticed that the rubber trim around the windows was faded, with whitish patches. I can post pics a bit later if you wanna see what I mean.

Basically the rubber trim looks like it comes from a 10 year old car that parks in the sun all day. Mine doesn't. At all.

I thought this was normal, until I started looking around. Turns out it isn't right.

Has anyone else had this problem (from a quick search it doesn't seem so)? Would I have any luck taking it back to the dealer? Or are they just going to tell me it's because of a product I used and therefore is my problem.

Alternatively, any detailers out there know of a product that might provide a longterm fix?

Thanks! I look forward to becoming an active member here.

Sounds like the previous polish wasn't removed properly?

I've never had it polished myself. I think the dealership left it outside for a while. Or they might have applied a polish.

I have it washed every 2 weeks. Would the polish have come off by now?

Nah, the polish is a bugger and sticks to the rubber and black plastic bits. I can recommend the plastic and rubber cleaner spray by Shield. You can get this from Crazy Detailer for cheap.

If this fading is caused by old polish, the Shield stuff will work.

And no, on a new car like that the rubber won't fade no matter if it stood in the sun since new.

Awesome, thank man. Found Crazy Detailer online just now, turns out they're down the road from me. Heard of a product called Back-to-Black? Pops up a lot in searches for faded rubber/plastic.

Yes, the back to black does work. I had some product on my SEAT's rubber trim and it removed it with little effort.

Give it a try, but, if its a bigger issue, take the car back to BM, prepare to wait though...

Shot. Ya, going back is a last resort. Not only because of the wait, but the fight I'll no doubt have to go through to get them to do something about it.

Just a quick update should anyone be searching the forums for answers to this question.

I bought Back to Black from Crazy Detailers. Applied it and the rubber looks great. I was told it should last for about 2 weeks. Which is fine, because that's my wash interval.
