Hey everyone,

Starting a thread to get opinions of those that have driven or own the new F90 M5. Im currently waiting for prices to come down on secondhand models before going test driving :fencelook:

What are your thoughts especially compared to the previous gen F10 M5.

Would also like to know if the 4WD has killed the experience :dunnoanymore:

@MOE 000 GP after we chatted, you mentioned you bought a new M5 comp pack (I know you said you have since sold it), what was your thoughts on the whole experience?

Looking forward to hearing opinions!

The 4WD has switchable modes..

4wd, 4wd sport (still 4wd but with more bias towards the rear if I recall correctly) and a 2wd rear mode where the entire front diff disconnects.

I know F10's often have trouble putting their power down to the ground effectively..

In terms of styling I prefer the F10 and their prices have come down a lot!

Agreed on the F10 M5 comments, ive had two so far and really enjoyed them. The styling on the new F90 is still a little strange to me - bit then again so was the F10 when it came out and that now looks timeless

Guess im going to just go drive a new F90 then - someone please buy my F30 :biglol: - that was the worst decision of my life selling the F10 to downsize and save on fuel / insurance

I’m keeping my F10, clean classic design , basically similar power to the F90, probably get a Porsche next, kinda tired of the current BMW crop

F10 is way way prettier. I didnt like how the F90 felt but it is undeniably faster and "better" by the numbers. Is it worth spending 2.1M on one? Not in my opinion... but that's also cos I have an F10 that has become a trusted friend... and which i truly love. It works for me, can still scare me after all these years and I dont care about the 0-100 or putting the power down... part of the fun and experience.

The f90 will give you the robot to robot kill vs pretty much anything this side of a 720S or Alpha GTR. Was it thrilling to drive? Not for me. I also didnt like the gearbox... which is part of the reason that even 2WD modes are not like the F10 IMHO not that I drove it like a hooligan lol. Like I said elsewhere I could literally have driven out with it and kept my F10... had finance insurance etc all ready. However it is like dating that supermodel that also graduated summa cum laude but has no personality... F10 (and most of the F series really) does still have character and personality that you can feel from the moment you set off... It is harder with the F90 and maybe it comes with time spent behind the wheel and settings.

That kind of money and if I had to buy a BMW I would push a bit and get an M8... bear in mind AMG has some gorgeous and very capable machines as well not to mention proper supercars into have deep pockets. I think f90 pricing will drop dramatically shortly and at R1.1/2 it will make for a great deal. Buy an F10 at current pricing and wait for this time to come... then you will have a straight line comfortable weapon in the F90 as well as an everyday muscle car with the F10 LOL... you will probably even have change left over for some high end mods... I didnt particularly like the suspension but I have all the comp pack bits on my F10 and ACS springs so that also probably has something to do with it.

To temper my opinion above I must add that I am comparing a car I had 30 mins with to one I've had years with and 100000km to get to know intimately (let alone mould to my tastes/preferences). I am sure the same will happen over time with the f90... it's just that for me I could see the future with the F10... but not the f90, if that makes sense. It's a car I would trade in 2 or 3 years on something different.

I've owned a F10 550i, and driven lots of F10 M5s. I've got my F90 since July 2018. Chalk and cheese between F10 in terms of tech, styling and power delivery.

The drive modes are pleasant. The car is quite forgiving on Sport modes and will keep you from getting into trouble. A little flick of the steering with some gas can get the tail out on 4wd with ease. Can keep it out if you really want. Launch is great.

The gearbox is very busy, which is quite fun because the exhaust noises upon shift are awesome.

It has presence. The F10 M5 blended into the crowd, this one sticks out.

I paid 1,860 for mine, brand new. You can pick up 2018s for 300k less currently.

Downsides?

It feels heavy, doesn't feel as agile as the F10, but I can live with that.

Harmon Kardon not up to standard.

The 4WD system improves the experience in my opinion.
Had an Audi TT Quattro and off the line feels faster than my M235i just because of the 4WD. No issues with traction, and makes for easier driving on our roads.
You can then switch it to RWD for the M-experience on tracks.
Win-Win
