F80/F82 M3/M4 Akrapovic Exhaust

If this is also news to you, BMW has recently decided that the Akrapovic Exhaust is no longer approved.

Could someone please provide some insight to the matter and why? After BMW have been promoting and installing it since the launch of the BMW M3/M4 in South Africa?

Does termination of Motorplan cover also include only having the Akrapovic backbox (slip-on line) installed?

If installed does Motorplan not cover any relatable damaged caused by the exhaust to the supposed "broken"/"affected" area of the vehicle should something go wrong? Or will it not cover anything anymore even if it has absolutely nothing to do with damage that may be related to the installation of the exhaust?

What about those who have had the Akrapovic exhaust system installed (evolution line) by an authorised BMW dealership while it was still approved a few months back? What repercussions do they sit with now?

Is there someone I can speak further to about the matter that works for BMW that I can be referred to?

I'll appreciate any ones effort in answering my questions :ty:

I think BMW is pushing their M performance parts.
They not covering the warranty going forward, those who had them pre their decision, should be fine.

If you change the exhaust, I assume pretty much everything engine related could be void of warranty.

Uncertain, but I imagine your entire motorplan is cancelled.

this will only apply if you have done the exhaust without BMW being informed that you installed the exhaust during the time it was approved and if they are aware and it was done prior to their cancelling the agreement with Akrapovic, the warranty cannot be void

Same with ACS: I have ACS Springs. Apparently no longer approved either. However, I am covered since this happened after they were fitted. If you had Akra fitted by BMW before this date it won't be an issue. They can't penalize you if this is a new 'decree' and the part was fitted by an approved dealer prior to this.

I've posted before about how absurd it is... you can fit an evolution line exhaust onto your M5/6 and have your warranty voided, but fitting the exact same system with M tips and you are fine (even all the clamps have the pressed Akra logo on them). Of course the M3/4 exhausts from M Performance are not the same, but unless you are touching the downpipes, there should (logically) be no problem <sigh> all the manufacturers are at it unfortunately. Slip on systems are generally not an issue regardless of manufacturer provided they fit it... just get approval in writing.

BMW dealership here in the UAE are Akrapovic approved, among many other premium parts suppliers - Alpina being the one they really punt. Dinan, ACS, etc are also approved. Its actually on the option list for you to tick. Within acceptable reason they even allow some of the aftermarket brands like PP-Performance.

Just been informed by a BMW employee (Eastview BMW) that Akrapovic is approved. In fact Akrapovic parts can be ordered through them....
