F30 - One of the dual exhausts doesnt seem to be working

Hi Guys.

Apologies if this issue has been discussed before. I couldn't find a thread on this.

My 2016 bmw f30 330i(pre facelift 328) has 2 exhausts. I've noticed that just one of them seems to be working. The one is only burning black and during idle just the one seems to working. Also after driving hard, just the one is hot.

Is this normal? I've read somewhere that the other one only works during really harsh acceleration and high revs. Is this true? Has anyone else experienced this issue.

Car is 2016 model and has around 7000km.

Thanks.

I stand corrected

Most of the time the other one is closed (it has a flap on it)

Yes it will only open when going pass certain RPM (e.g 3500)

When you rev pass that RPM IT flips open

Ask someone to rev it to about 3.5-4rpm while the car is standing you can view it opening or not

If not consultant your dealer....something might be wrong

It's normal to the best of my knowledge. It has a valve which opens in sport and sport+ modes or past 3,000 rpm (I think) in comfort mode.

Recently I have mostly been driving in sport mode and then checking the exhaust. It was cold.

I will get someone to rev it up and i'll check.

Thanks for all the replies.
