I was having a look at the BMW SA website, to see what the specs/prices are of new 3 series. Surprisingly, im seeing that the actual engine specs are:

318i - 1.5l - turbo 3 cyl
320i - 2l - turbo 4 cyl
330i - 2l - turbo 4 cyl
340i - 3l - turbo 6 cyl

is this correct, or is this an error on the pricelist? those model names are confusing if thats real.

No Error , BMW has always been like that , my E30 320i 6 Cylinder is a 1995cc lol our 320LCI is almost the same and its a 4 , I think my 318i Is the same cc as the 320i as well .

Yep, that's 100% correct.

BMW and Mercedes is a bit dyslexic these days with the model numbering.

yikes i didnt realise how much cars have changed recently! i was thinking maybe next year i'll look into a f30 330i, it would be a nice upgrade from my e46 330ci if i can make a plan to get it financed. i know i'm a few years behind on car trends, but this is hectic!

im sure the latest 2l turbo's go like hell, but the only option for a 6 cylinder seems to be a 340i, or the f30 335i which are mostly second hand where i am.

im feeling quite sad after finding out about all this now :thumbdo:

save your money and go for the normal 320i, with just a map and dp im sure youl be making the same power as the 330i.
if you still really want a 6 cylinder go an E90 LCI 330i

Or even better, get a 330D, best all rounder IMO

thanks for the help guys, next on my radar was the 330D if the 320i/330i doesnt do anything for me.

Indeed yes those are the 3 engine options. we have the baby 318i LCI.. When I heard 3cyl I was sceptical, not a bad engine for a runabout.. It sounds better than the 118i it replaced.

Still won't catch me driving it.. 6 cylinder and no traction for me thank you :roflol:
