F30 LCI Android HU and Towbar Recommendations

It's interesting how this read started as a recommendation and now is a good source of information.

Anyways on a more random ,note. I love the dashboard screen. Everytime I start up the car, it's the default screen I go to. Kinda makes up for not having a digital cluster. Lol

I have seen that part, but really prefer Waze + Spotify to be displayed. Have you actually tried Netflix yet? An update on my towbar installation. It is done. I did the cable splicing today. The retrofit includes all of the items you need to splice neatly as well. I then moved to coding and programming. Thats where it got interesting.

After almost updating all my modules in E-SYS and realizing after doing 3 modules I need to stop cause I don't have a spare power source for the car.

Because mine was a retrofit Removable Towbar (Not the automatic/Electronic) I had to code HO instead of VO. This I would never have thought if I didn't have a low battery on my laptop and started searching more on how to get rid of the errors on my dash.

Add HO:K235 (Not VO, remove VO if you did). This is only if you got the warning on your dash after injecting the correct files as well. Warning indicates Towbar is connected. PS on your head unit to you have the option for Front Camera?

I'm trying to get mine working. The inputs I have are Reverse Camera (in and working), CVBS in (not working for front cam), tv-in (separate harness) and dvr-in (separate harness). The CVBS in works with the dvr in so I'm thinking they possibly swapped around.

I mailed the manufacturer to let me know which one to use once they test it their side. I really want it cause it took me almost 3hrs to run the cables for it.

Do you perhaps have the manual of your device (or instructions) showing all the rca video inputs? I want to compare it to mine. I have 4 rca yellow input connectors.
1x Reverse Camera
1x CVBS in
1x DVR In
1x TV in

I want to see if one of those actually work with the f_cam app (Front Camera) and perhaps yours shows which on you use for front camera input. I already have a 1080P AHD rear camera and read somewhere online that for f_cam to work both connectors need to be set to CVBS in the settings menu.

Thanx man. My vendor also sent me what I need to connect about 1hr ago. They did the testing their side and confirmed I need to connect it with the DVR-In because the naming on the yellow rca plug wasn't correct.

So I'm going to do that today and code all my modules for my towbar. Then write a short review of all of the items next week sometime.

Today I removed the front camera. Because of the heat in the engine bay I could see interference on the screen. This cause my rear camera to have interference as well because they used the same 12v connector on the android head unit.

So if someone is looking for a front camera or rear camera ( can be used for either)R100 and it's yours.

I wouldn't recommend front camera install because of the engine bay heat epically on hot days.

I completed the coding of my vehicle today for the towbar. Added the HO and then had to code 6 or 7 modules to inject the HO into them . Once this was done I then had to customize my modules again. I did a few more such as mperformance logo on hud instead of bmw, close sunroof on rain detection, camera zoom on towbar in reverse gear, auto start/stop remember last setting and 1 or 2 more I thought I use.

Towbar works properly now, disabling rear pdc automatically when connected and showing a towbar sign on the screen while reversing too.

I've been looking and seems you would need a new harness connector at the back of the radio for this to work properly. I would rather recommend someone who has an android head unit use this camera instead.

Just an update. I know these devices come with USB cables with female connector ports on them which don't really have a mounting place. I got someone to print me holders for them and they look pretty decent. Easy access for usb port and is out of the way from any actual visible places too.
