F30 interior rattle - rear left

Hi,

My car is around 11,500km old now.

At around 9,000km, I noticed a rattle sound (sounds like a loose parcel shelf vibration in a hatchback) coming from the left rear passenger section. The sound only comes up when I drive on bumpy roads.

This sound is different from the F30 gloss window frame squeak, which I already had fixed by JSN earlier in the year.

Before I embark on a lengthy self inspection exercise, I just wanted to check first if anyone has had this issue before.

Thanks.

I had the issue on my F30 320d, it was coming front the left rear seat....

Have you had a kids car seat in there?

Yes, an isofix car seat was there. I have removed it a while ago. The sound started after the seat was removed, now that I think about it. The two isofix plastic clip holders are still stuck on the seat.

The mechanism on the seat itself needs to be adjusted, you can test this by giving the seat a few hard punches, the noise will only suffice again after someone has sat in the seat, really irritating issue to have :roflol:

I got a slight rattle from what i assume to be on the left side of the car, as well, it happens mostly when I turn and sounds like something is loose (has a rolling sound if that makes sense :hammerhead: ). They said it was something that had to be adjusted/ clipped back in, cant remember exactly

So, the investigation continues via process of elimination.

It is not the rear seat.
It is not the rear door.
It is not the seatbelt metal clip on the front passenger side knocking against the B pillar.
It is not anything in the boot.
It is not the front passenger seat.

It sounds like it is coming from the left C pillar, either near the rear parcel shelf, or the top of the left C pillar, maybe from the roof. I will investigate further when I have a passenger in the car.

The sound only pops up when driving on bumpy roads.

Lowered suspension and competition subs..... gets you rattling rear parcel shelf, seat, door buttons and any loose stuff in armrest and cubby. Turn the music up

Check the roof lining... My F30 320d had a rattle.. BMW had to put new roof lining in..

Was it done under warranty?

Indeed yes, not sure if BMW claims against the 2 year warranty vs the maintenance plan but I have never had issues with them replacing parts due to problems while under plan :=):

Take it to the dealership and drive with the service technician in the back. That's how they fixed my rattle coming from the rear right. Turned out to be a loose grommet somewhere under the battery. They stripped out the seats and c pillar and replaced the rear window break light before they found it.

Hi Mr_Y,

I have a similar issue. The problem on my vehicle is the left rear door locking pin(s) that vibrates against the plastic round retainer part. This is a common issue on the f30 and is quite well documented on other BMW forums. You can buy the replacement part from the dealerships or try and fix it yourself.
Parts Nº: 51417316859 - Front doors and 51427316860 - Back doors.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a door knob support/guide. https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=83477
