When you shift the gearlever to the left into manual mode, what is the difference between M1 and S1?

S1 still changes the gears automaticly, so what is the difference between S1 and normal D?

D's supposed to save you petrol, S is for a more sporty feel, there are some dynamic driving differences, BUT if you use both in normal traffic driving enviros, expect higher rev holding in S mode. Disable the DTC bitchswitch in S.. then you better know how to control the power output in S mode or youz in trouble.

As far as I know.. Pushing the gear lever to the left activates M sport gearing. A kind of "race" mode. It's still automatic, it just keeps you in the high RPM so you always have power no matter how fast/slow you are going etc, so your car moves quicker.

So yeah, still automatic, but hangs onto gears longer etc for more access to power.

Then finally you have the actual manual gearing, which is different :)

I could be wrong, but just so you at least know something about it while the more experienced guys answer. I've driven with it, but not paid much attention :=):

If you just move lever to the left it is in sport(S1) once you have moved it up or down you are in manual (M1) so the one stands for the gear you are in.

In sport it will gear down alot more aggressive when you want to accelerate, where in normal drive it adapts to your driving style and doesnt kick back in to higher rpm as quick unless you hit the kickdown on the gas pedal.

So from 4th if you give it gass, it will kick back to say 3rd in normal drive, where in sport it will go back to the lowest gear possible eg. 2nd.

My take on it...

M1 - Manual, can still change auto if you make a hasty decision and dont change for very long or something similiar...
D - Normal drive and drives smooth, nice fuel consumption...
S1 - Sport Mode, revs longer & changes sharper
