diesels are for bakkies.

you get more torque on a diesel, but also limited on the revs.better fuel consumption on the diesel, tends to change gear more quickly, compared to petrol

would go the 320i if i had to buy one,but as it has a turbo in it wouldnt really buy it,had kak experience with turbos

Funny you should say this as you now have a diesel:rollsmile:

The new 320i is bliksem quick. Will tear a hole in the 320d. I raced one the other day and first couple gears he stuck with my stock N54 335i. I was very surprised.

Go for the petrol. Good all round performance and alot funner than the 320d. If I went diesel I would never touch anything but the 30d. That is a special motor.

Sorry for :biglol:

I had a F30 320i demo for a week when I had my 325i for repairs in the beginning of the year. I then test drove the F30 320d and all I can say is the standard F30 320i does not even come close to the F30 320d. After the test drive in the 320d My mind was made up and quickly trade my e90 325i LCI. E90 320d late models 2010 and up are better than E90 320i. This is what I experianced because I have driven them. The F30 the magic is in the gearbox and that is what is putting it above the rest. The diesel and that 8spd are made for each other.
E90 lots of gearbox lag and power loss

Go drive them both and you will see. Oh and fuel economy on th 320d is:thumbs:
320i stayed at 9.8 to 10 per 100km
Look at this tread its an e90 and look at the mileage on the car and still going strong http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=50767

All I can say is go drive them both and then decide. You will see what its all about then. Oh and Fuel saving also. The F30 320i I had stayed at 9.8 to 10 per 100km

Dont get too excited...after second I pulled about 10 car lengths! But its obvious the F30 320i vs the E90 320i is a HUGE HUGE difference...The new 320i will beat the e90 330i up hereat altitude.

Look you can carry on about the diesel but performance wise the F30 320i is BETTER hands down than the F30 320d.

The 320d makes up for it it fuel economy...it all depends on where you sit in the performance vs economy graph. Im a perf fanatic so everything else is secondary.

All I can say is test drive both and you decide what you prefer. Its the owner that has to be satisfied with his ride. Bring that F30 320i bring it and lets see who is the best. The proof is in the pudding :biglol:

Hey Guys

Im very interested in testing.

I have two F30 320i's with different factory performance options loaded on them. Keen to try anything.

Everyone keen just go to the next Tarlton or ODI event and run each other a couple of times. Otherwise the TLGP's and stories will never end

320d. No question. Sure they have the same power, but that torque is so damn useful! I drove a 320i and it really did feel a bit sluggish compared to what I was expecting. And the diesel's are quieter.

I also know someone who bought an F30 320i and shortly traded it in for a d.

Then there's the fuel consumption! The claim is less than 5 out of town, but if any 320i owners can get less than 6, let me know. My 2005 E90 d got 4.6 l/100km at the best and 5.5 at the worst on long trips.

I also don't care what the specs say. They have the same power and the 320i is supposed to be a little faster, but in tests, the 320d kills the 320i.

There seems to be one common denominator between the staunch 320i fans. They seem to not have gotten behind the wheel of a 135kw 320d. And the presupposed ideas they have about diesels are still there.

Some myths about modern diesels they need to dispell:

- Diesels are tractor-like farm engines. Nope...wrong, the new ones purr like a cat, smooth and refined.

- Diesels are just economical, they have inferior power. Again...wrong, they are actually superior to petrol engines in the power department, as they deliver the power all the way from low to high revs.

- Diesels only have low-rev torque and dies quickly at higher revolutions. Nope....wrong again. The power band is WIDE, they keep delivering all the way to max revs.

Fact is, that as far as pure driving performance goes, you put them next to each other, they arrive at the endpoint in just about the same time. Only difference is, that the 320d "feels" smoother. feels like you have to rev the shyte out of the i just to keep up. But in the end, pure facts and figures there is little to choose.

BUT

The 320d overtakes more effortlessly......this is fact.
The 320d is MUCH more economical...fact

So I cannot for the life of me think of one logical reason to choose the 320i over the 320d.

To all the 320i fans...go and drive a 320d for a week, then come and post here again...

BUT:

The 320d is MUCH more economical...fact

So.....obviously...:

320d wins

P.S.

It must be said though, the F30, 320i is one hell of a lot better than the E90 320i, and the on the latest models, the i is not as far behind the d as used to be the case with the E90.
