Wow this is a difficult one, with the e90 it was easy especially here at altitude. Think the 320i sounds better than the 320d but not the advantage of the fuel consumption. Personally if I am looking for a manual then the 320i, automatic = 320d

320d = more power, better fuel consumption

They have the same power(kw) and 320i manual is 7.3 to 100 where 320d is 7.5.

Anyhow I would say if fuel consumption is what ur after 320d, but 320i is cheaper for same performance and will take a few years to make up price difference in fuel if you go 320d.

I like both cars, seems a very difficult choice!

Skiet is spot on.
But having driven both a few times, I'd still say 320d for a daily.
Fuel consumption is lower and I think it had decent bit more torque than 320i.
Maybe it's a mental thing but the 320d just felt better to drive.

Same kilowatts but more torque = more power:fencelook:

seriously though if the new consumption figures are to be believed on the new turbo engines there is not real reason to go for diesel... drive both and take the one that talks to you

One day my son, You shall believe :tease:

i believe in boost

the main thing i clash with on a diesel is there is no point in revving it...

I really like petrols because the torque is more spread out I can drive it sedately if i like then i can take it over 4000 and make it scream where it becomes a completely different animal...

Its like having a naughty girl that cleans up nice for when the parents come around :)

with a diesel it all comes in one big lump at the beginning and after that its a bit numb...

Diesel is just not for me thanks :sorry: i like RPM

To an extent, I would agree.

I'd say test drive both and see which one you prefer. The F30 320i has moved the game up a bit.

Diesel in our country is Bad and you have to buy the expensive diesel or you will have endless problems. In some deserted places clean diesel is not available and only Tractor diesel is available:bangdesk:

Why are there more secondhand diesels on the BMW website for sale with low mileage than the 320i, go and ask yourself that. Diesels give problems in the long run if you tend to keep the car past motorplan. They also more expensive and not wurth paying that much extra to save fuel that will never make up the price differance.

If you want a performance machine buy a 330d I agree. then the game changes completely

Just my opinion:fencelook:

diesels are for bakkies.

you get more torque on a diesel, but also limited on the revs.better fuel consumption on the diesel, tends to change gear more quickly, compared to petrol

would go the 320i if i had to buy one,but as it has a turbo in it wouldnt really buy it,had kak experience with turbos

Never got to test drive a 320i at the launch (only had the 328i), but the 320d is simply amazing and gets my vote I reckon! Nothing wrong with the 320i, but economy/performance you cannot go wrong with the diesel!!
