F30 320d Software Remap

Hi guys, :fencelook: first post - i'm a newbie here.

I did software remap (not Plug & Play) on my 2012 320d F30 a week ago and i must say, it's fun to drive. No issues noted so far, the car responds well in all 3(4) driving modes. The gear change is still smooth on auto and you can feel more vibe when shifting with paddle-shifts.

Haven't put it on a dyno as yet but the power gain is definitely noticeable. I think the fuel consumption has gone a bit high but that's due to the excitement :smilebounce: so i'm yet to verify that. The car is out of MP so i'm not so bothered, i'm currently on 169 000 KMs and no issues so far.

I'm a bit bothered by the amount of torque gained and how it might affect the 8 speed auto gearbox as i read somewhere that it can only handle so much torque. The guys who did software for me said they did a safe map to avoid compromising reliability. everything else on the car is standard, i'm considering dpf removal at a later stage as they said i'll gain more power but i'm already bothered by the pressure i am/will be putting on the transmission. which i believe is expensive to repair if it breaks.

Has any of you with the same moto done performance tuning? particularly software remap, manual or auto, any reliability issues?

How Much torque is it pushing out now?
the 8speed is much better than the previous 6speef zf box, so you should be fine...

The torque is yet to be confirmed, i'll take it in for a spin on a dyno in the next week or so and will post the results here.

Welcome to the club TAL007 :bravo:
The 320D is a nice car and even better with the dpf removal  removing it will cause less pressure on the turbo, so make turbo last longer, seeing that u doing spirited driving, consumption will also come down quite abit, it should actually have been ur 1st mod :) post sum pics

Oh great, if dpf removal will balance my fuel consumption then that's another good reason to consider it. I was told about the benefit on the turbo lifespan when they did my software. But won't that (dpf removal) cause too much smoking? there isn't much smoking since the software update except on hard acceleration when taking off.

OP your car has the ZF 8hp45 gearbox which is rated to 500nm and will in all likelihood cope easily with more power than that as well.

The important thing to note is that a gearbox is a serviceable component and should be serviced religiously to prevent failure and a costly rebuild. At your mileage it should have had at least 1 service and be well on it’s way to another service. The problem is BMW do not service these boxes unless it is really needed (eg. whine in reverse, rough 5-6 shift etc.)

I would suggest that you contact ZF Services in Meadowdale and make an appointment for them to check your gearbox:thumbs:

Thanks for that info, then it sounds like i'm still on the safe side and even after removing the dpf i guess i'll still be safe and below 500nm torque limit. Re: service, I just called ZF services and they said gearbox service is gonna cost me about R3800, so i'll book it in soon.

I am pushing around 500nm for almost a year now, I drive a lot and I drive the car hard. No issues, you should be fine

Enjoy the car :cartel:

Thanks Morras12 - that's some serious torque you're pushing there, i guess you did more than just software remap, nice looking car you have there :praise:

No Problem :)

Yes - Downpipe, drop in filter, intercooler and now Meth kit, still need to dyno with the meth kit. Waiting on chargepipes so we can move the nozzle. I will update my thread soon

and thank you :praise:

Hey Bro, I have recently done the downpipe on my car. It doesn't smoke that much. WRT the gearbox, before I fitted the downpipe, I was making 187wkw and 435nm. Not sure now after the Dp. Car feels strong and so far no issues.

Oh wow you pushing serious kw there buddy and thanks for that info on the dp, it's definitely my next move.
Still running on software remap alone and i'm loving it.

Did you only do dp and software or have you done other upgrades too?

Yasis , That’s like 210kw at the fly, what was your car making prior to mods?

187wkw? Do you have Hybrid turbo too? :fencelook:
