F30 320d Advice

Hey Guys

Been a while, been busy with business and driving around.

So as I posted previously, I purchased a 2015 F30 320d M Sport last year but went ape with the driving so now she is already at 80 000 km on the clock. Still goes well and now stuck in a tricky spot.

My options are :

1. Keep the car with extended motorplan
2. Keep the car with after market warranty
3. Trade car in for a new car

My reason for posting is, I like the car and am not sure the strength of the engine and turbos. If I decide to keep the car, what should I ask BMW to change before it goes out of plan or would you recommend the R1 a km maintenance plan rip of from BMW.

If I keep it tho, was planning a new rim, Downpipe, Software, Intake with coilovers.

I am so confused.

That is a crazy amount of Km's in a year

Rule of Thumb: BMW wont replace anything, if its not broken.

lol like modifications are going to preserve the lifespan of the engine and turbo if you keep the car off plan... remember out of plan, BMW parts are not as cheap as you think and it could be your luck that you mod it and something serious fails then you going to throw even more money at the car trying to fix it.

safest most logical option will be to sell it and get a younger car with plan.

After market warranty is an option, its not going to pay full on your claims. they pay a small portion depending on what is stated in the policy.

BMW extended motorplan is also expensive and can be seen as a waste at times (to those that took it and didn't get to use it) but you will be smiling if something fails. if its something major you can recoup the cost of the additional motorplan in the repair cost.

Lol yes I would like to do modifications but basic ones to have some fun as hate being bound by motor plan.

The warranty will cover the parts of the vehicle if any breakage as there are some expensive but good aftermarket cover.

I looked at maintenance costs so far from items that where changed and a simple thing like shocks worked out to R950 each with shock mounts which i think is not bad.

Was the past year's driving the norm or do you usually travel a lot less per year?
How long do you normally keep your cars/planned to keep this one?

If you plan on not keeping the car too long (another year or two), consider getting out of it and into something newer. Perhaps a demo or CPO with low kms to at least ease the depreciation.
Trying to sell a 2/3 year old car that's done 160,000 / 240,000km (if you keep driving like you did in the past year) and out of MP, will certainly influence your resale. Perhaps get a trade & retail on the car as it sits now and consider the cost of a replacement and go from there.

If you plan on keeping the car for longer than that, consider options 1 or 2.

Option 4: Keep the car and get a cheaper DD?

Lol I did buy a cheaper DD already. Bought an Audi S3

Also keep in mind, what your trade value is vs what you will be offered for your car is not going to be closely matched.

That is the biggest issue I am going to have.

I will only get a good trade if I go back to BMW for another brand new car.

With high mileage, even BMW will offer a bad trade. But i suggest go into a BMW and dealership (ofcourse) and get a trade offer and price on a newer/demo vehicle.
Demo normally depreciates so there is some equity. And new comes with dealer / factory assistance.

Question, how do you do 80k in 12 months?

Even new at BMW, your mileage is going to make it hurt. Weather you going to bite the bullet now, or later on, its is still going to cost you money.

Choice will be up to you, whether to take a loss now or later. Buying a run around now, and keeping the BMW longer, to have the km's even out, is til costing money, unless you going to get the run around fro practically nothing with no insurance/ running costs. Unless of course you need a run around, and will keep it around to be used.

If its for a business, why dont you rather lease a car? Far better when it comes to tax ect.

I actually had a chat with a leasing company on Friday. Looking into some options.
