F20 Door Rattle Repair

Hi guys,

My 2015 F20 has developed an annoying creak on the driver's door. It's driving me insane. The car's out of warranty so I have to pay for it to be fixed.

BMW quoted me R1800 JUST FOR DIAGNOSTICS! I shudder to think what final repair cost will be.

Has anyone else had a problem with creaking panels inside the car/on the door? It sounds as if whatever was holding the panels together has come loose and they're rubbing together.

Is there a cheaper way of repairing this? If I take it to a non-BMW accredited place will I run the risk of losing my motorplan?

The car's pretty much new so it's not standard wear and tear - something has come loose. I think BMW are taking the piss with their repair costs though.

Just check YouTube videos on how to strip the door panel
Then DIY
Replace loose/ broken clips
Maybe 2 way tape/foam can be used

I know on the F30 the damn door buttons rattle

you might not need to strip the door, I had the similar issue on my F30 driver door and it was the plastic fitting that is around the door lock knob. when driving your car, press the door lock knob side ways against that plastic fitting and the rattle will go away. If it does, then you don't need to strip the door panel. just remove that plastic fitting and get a new one or modify it in such a way that it keeps the lock knob in place. A new one was about R300 and I needed all four, so I just modified mine using Velcro tape and the rattles gone

*SOLVED*

Took it to BMW who tightened everything and applied some lube. I was quoted a minimum of R1800. They decided not to charge me. Very cool. Problem seems sorted for now. Still squeaks a bit on colder days.

They took the short route with you and the door will most probably start squeeking again. The squeek is usually caused by the door rubbers that rub against the window trim and should be fixed by applying a 3m tape to the door trim,BMW knows about this, but they alway act like they have no idea what to do in this case.
