After some persuasion over the years my SO decided to join the BMW family yesterday.

She took delivery of a 2013 120d in fairly basic spec, but in incredible condition.

The spec includes:
Black leather seats
Sunroof
Idrive Screen
Multifunction steering
Glacier Silver Metallic

Mileage is on 92 000km.

So far she is in awe of the car and how well it drives and how solid it feels on the road. Considering that the other option was a Suzuki Swift Sport she really didn’t do too bad at all.

Now for the “bad”:

1) Does anyone know how to remove smoke odour from a car? It really drives me (and her) mad
2) The car has LIM function, but not cruise control - is it possible to retrofit cruise control?
3) Can one retrofit bluetooth?

Anyway, thanks for reading gents. Below are some pics..

Congrats to your SO Ferdi. Very nice car.

To get rid of the :smoke: smell I would use Mcguairs Odour Eliminator. Builders has it.

I am pretty sure you could retro the bluetooth, lets see what others have to say.

Thanks man! No doubt she will enjoy the car a lot in years to come.

I will try the Odour Eliminator and if all else fails will take it in for a proper interior valet.

Bluetooth and Cruise Control isn’t crucial, but are nice to have when you daily the car, which is what she will be doing.

What is LIM function?

It’s a speed limiter that you can set yourself at a certain speed. It does work quite well, but doesn’t replace cruise control.

Congrats to the SO Ferdi,

Getting rid of the smoke odour might take a couple of tries as the smoke is probably going to be engrained in the fibres of the carpet and material.

When I got my wifes X1, there was a weird smell on the carpets and over a period whenever i vacuumed i used a carpet cleaner ( one that you spray, scrub and vacuum off). After the carpets came right i noticed the aircon also had a funny smell which I then sorted out with an aircon cleaner. Its way better than what it was, but in retro spect i should have changed the cabin filter at the time of doing the aircon clean.

Using a decent interior cleaner and conditioner will help even on the leather as well.

Will chat via Whatsapp in the evening to show you the stuff i used on the carpets.

Hi Ferdi. Congrats. Many happy miles. I had the same problem with the smoking smell. I got 2 concentrated Sta-Soft refills, left them in the car permanently, and after a while, it was gone. :smilebounce:

Thanks Sash!

The carpets have seen better days and the driver side has a tear in, so they’re probably going to be replaced soon-ish.

I’ll chat to you then, get a list of products and tackle the odour removal job:thumbs:

A refill or 2 will be placed in the car in any case, but it stinks so much that we have to make a plan asap.

The interior could do with a leather treatment of some sorts to remove the glossy finish on the steering etc, so will have to do a proper interior clean.

Congrats

Regarding the smoke odour what causes? I haven’t experienced such so that’s why I’m a bit puzzled.

Coming from a 1.4 Corsa utility, I am fairly sure she won't be mapping it anytime soon:fencelook:

Comes in two parts, might be previous owner used to smoke in the car, I had to take mine for a valet to get rid of the stench.. really smells bad if you are not a smoker

Or considering this is a diesel, my B7 audi had a terrible diesel smoke smell in the car everytime I drove it. Had to get the exhaust guys to look at it, They touched something and moved something somewhere then the smell was gone forever.

This is a normal cigarette smoke smell. It’s driving me mad.

As a car enthusiast I really can’t fathom why a person would smoke in a car and cause an almost permanent stench inside the car:rage:
