Hi guys

Im in the market for a new car within the next month, it's time to upgrade from my E90 320i. Call it a christmas present to myself!

I have been looking around a lot the last few months and have narrowed my search down to 2 possible models, namely the F20 118i or the F30 320i.

Criteria that I was looking at:
Needs to still have motorplan intact which I can extend need be. So 2012 onwards.
Better fuel consumption than what I am getting currently.
A bit more speed and acceleration to have some fun with of course.
Leather seats, so no cloth and also an updated interior with climate control, iDrive. (I don't like the plain interior of the E8x series.)

Can I hear what you guys think would be the better option, or rather the pros and cons of both so I can weigh everything up. I'm not to worried about manual or auto, either would do but what would you guys suggest?

Thank in advance!

Hi

What is your budget.

In terms of space the 320 better option.

In all aspects the 320 will beat the 118i except for cost

I'm looking at around R200k. So have seen options of both the 118 and 320 around that price range which look quite good.
I'm also keen on the extra space. I've gotten used to it over the years with my E90.

Hi

I have recently upgraded from a e90 to a 320i F30 and I am really enjoying the F30. I had a 118i for a week and did not enjoy it as much as the F30.

Have a F20 118i. Nippy and Fun to drive, nice power delivery too.. Your choice but if it's for a family car, 320i is the option to take. Also the F20 LCI and the F30 LCI are different meaning that in the sense the F30 still looks very much the same.

Seeing as you've mentioned fuel consumption, have you considered a 320d as well, bud?

Why what happens when I put the fogs on?[GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

I do not personally have any experience with the diesel cars, but am under the impression that there might be more that go wrong in the long run compared to the petrol? I suppose I feel a bit more confident with petrol cars. But please do let me know if Im wrong! Im unbiased concerning the 2.

Thanks for the replies guys!

He had a bad experience with his F30 fogs http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=70646

The diesel will be significantly lighter on fuel, and a better daily driver IMO (torque ftw) and you're looking for a car with a motorplan, so maintenance shouldn't be much of a concern, although, if it helps, most people fear high-mileage diesels because of horror stories regarding blown turbo's etc. Newer BMW turbo diesels are much more reliable.

@S1NGH911 could give you more insight on the 320d

320d give less problems than the 320i. I can see this at the dealership that i go visit regularly. Also you will notice its harder yo find a 320d than a 320i. Al I can say the choice is yours but before you decide just go test drive a 320d.

I own both and must say the 1 series is a lot more sporty. My wife's car 118i Auto 2013 with 35000km we are looking at selling it as we are immigrating to the UK. If you're interested.

Hey guys

Havent taken the plunge yet, but due to budget contraints I am going to be looking at 118i. I just want to hear if you guys know if there are any issues that I need to look out for?

Im keen on a nice 118i with Msportpack, but its on 99000km. Too high? Or what do you guys think?

99k .. what year model? ..
only problem comes in that all expenses mechanically will be at ur own cost ...

It's a 2012 model. Yip, thats what Im wondering about. I saw others with less km, but not the sportspack... Im really liking the look of the sports pack!
So I'm just wondering if there are any know issues with these cars that I would need to budget for apart from the normal services.
