F10 M5 Errors

Hey guys.

hope you all have been doing well. Ive got my 2013 F10 M5 giving me some issues. Over the past few days I have had 2 issues come up.

1) coolant level: so ive checked the coolant over the past 2 days and yes it was low when it initially came on but I filled it up and the error has not gone away and ive been checking daily on the coolant and all is ok. do you think it could be a sensor issue?

2)Restraint System: ive had this on for the last couple of days. how can I check if all is ok?

the reason I'm asking is that my M5 just went out of warranty so I cant take it to BMW to get sorted unless I'm gonna paying $$$

Any suggestions would be great please.

Check the turbo coolant system. The reservoir cap is at the back passenger side of the engine bay and is completely seperate from the one on the driver's side just next to the engine cover. In my case this was one of the turbo coolant lines leaking very slowly over a long time. It is likely that BMW will goodwill this if the car has just come off plan.

Restraint system - check your battery charge. Someone will need to read the code to diagnose further.

Have you tried clearing the faults and checking to see if they come back on again?

thanks Llew for the info, I will check it out when I get home this evening and let you know.

M135 no bud, how do I clear the codes?

Restraint code will not go away until cleared with a code reader. It is most likely due to the cable under the seat that gets bumped during cleaning.

Reading of error codes will give you an indication.

As for the coolant, diagnostics will tell you if it is the primary or secondary cooling system.

I do not think the secondary causes a coolant light.

If your coolant system is not leaking, perhaps a level sensor issue, but again diagnostics.

What you should do, is invest in an ENET cable, get ista-d and/or inpa, just for your own piece of mind. You do not want to start playing the sensor guessing game, cause you cant afford it...

First random link I found on ebay, no affiliation.

You can get the cable locally as well via gumtree, but then the clowns want like 1k for it

Agree... bluetooth OBD2 reader + Torque Pro and ENET cable are good investments. I ordered one off AliExpress which is pretty good quality wise and came with many DVDs (and a torrent link) of many... ermm... "resources"... that you will find useful.

The secondary cooling system definitely throws a code and it is especially unhelpful because the iDrive suggests you need to attend to the primary one... I've had this happen to me.

Glad you found the problem! Check your turbo coolant lines for leaks. Pull off the plastic engine cover and have a look around with a torch. Might be dripping onto the heatshield (it vaporises so it won't be wet, but you will likely smell it or be able to see other evidence of a leak.). Check with BMW if they are willing to goodwill the repair - not sure what it costs out of plan but the parts themselves (from memory) are not expensive. Even if not, if it isn't that far out of plan you might be able to make a case that this was actually an issue that started whilst the car was still on plan.

Hi. Seeing your restraint system has an error. do you have a seatbelt and airbag light. Can you measure your oil level. Reason i ask is that i also have a restraint system error and my oil indicator is inactive.
