for some reason the m5 doesn't do well in sa magazine tests like car mag and top car but excels in overseas tests. what's up with that? octane?

The overseas test is o-60 mph which is 96 km/h .
A lot of cars are geared in second for say 95 km/h and may get to 60 mph on the rev limiter and post a good time . Now to get to 100 km/h needs a gear change which often counts for 0.3 to 0.5 second difference in 0-96 and 0-100 km/h times .
I do wonder if the asphalt is more aggressive and offers better grip on certain overseas test strips.
There have been overseas road tests to 100 km/h and in general their results are similar to the local tests so the test drivers are within a few percent difference , no problem there .

am not just talking about 0-100. if you look at the comparisons between the cls63amg the m5 seems to be ahead of the performance package version in all tests. come to sa and the m5 loses in the 2 tests i mentioned.

Like someone said, bad drivers...but might also be road conditions and fuel as we are way behind the rest of the world. Another reason, and this is just my personal opinion, SA guys are like sheep, if someone prints something about a particular car, they all print more or less the same thing.

Also remember CAR Mag tests 2up with testing equip and full tank gas.... so add an extra 150kg for that

In any case it beats the Merc E63 and the Jag....
