what a beast...,

are you sure theres nothing on the outside of the lens, highly unlikely something got inside the lens.... unless your phone has been through a war or something.

I've cleaned the lens over and over again. I'm not 100% sure what the issue is. Seems like there is something that's either burnt or scratched into the inner lens. Not sure how that would have happened though.

Thanks guys. I have to admit I've really been enjoying the car. As PAD asked, the difference between the V10 M6 and this M5 is huge. For a number of reasons.

The biggest has obviously been the turbo vs normally aspirated. I was never a big fan of forced induction, and also where the turbos are placed on the car has had me somewhat interested in the design of the engine. But I'll go over my impressions of each car one at a time, and then a conclusion.

So lets start with the M6. As any of the V10 owners, either M5 or M6, on this forum will attest, the V10 is somewhat of a legend. It's high revving nature and unhinged approach to performance was something I hadn't expected. The car was on the ragged edge pretty much all of the time, demanding to be driven. It was a thrill a minute, constantly. Which, in the end, is what made me move away from it. Although endowed with a wide range of creature comforts, electrically adjustable steering, heated seats, comfort access etc. the car did need to be driven. And it needed to be driven hard. Also, with the exhaust modification I had on mine, it was loud all the time. But, for sheer presence, you couldn't really match it, and it turns heads everywhere you go in it. Draped in Alpine White, it blended in nicely until the V10 screamed. The seats were awesomely comfortable, and despite the loud exhaust, it was a dream on the open road. Performance wise, for a 9 year old car, was astounding. It could shift with the best of them. The SMG gearbox, very much the bane of most SMG drivers existence, was terrible in automatic, terrible in the lowest manual setting, but very mechanical and engaging when driven in the highest manual setting. I loved the mechanical throw it would give me. It felt natural. Fuel consumption wasn't good at all. I was averaging roughly 280-350kms on a tank, between 15.5L\100kms and 18L\100kms, depending on traffic, how I was driving and the distance being covered. I never used the launch control, was too scared of breaking something! Overall, the 2nd best M car I'd owned, my E46 M3 sitting at the top of that list. The M6 was a driver's car, although a tad heavy and cumbersome around a track. But engaging, perfectly built, and with enough power to soothe the brow. Just a little unhinged.

Overall rating for my M6: 8.5/10

So the F10. Well, I'd never even been in any F10 5-Series prior to driving the M5. It's a shape I've always enjoyed, because, in my humble opinion, and with no offense meant to the E34, E39 and E60 owners, the most classical looking 5 Series since the E28. So I went out on a limb. The first thing that struck me when I first drove it, was the unbelievable level of quality and comfort the F10 provided. All the controls and buttons were conveniently placed for the driver, although I was a bit confused by the multifunction steering wheel at first. It was a LOT quieter than the M6. With no enhancements to the exhaust (which is what I wanted), it purred rather than roared, and the piped acoustics from the exhaust did let me down a little, but from an overall experience, it was something small to live with.
But I think you guys are more interested in the performance. So let me get to it. It's unreal. And completely unexpected. Whereas the M6 had roughly 520Nm of Torque, the M5 is topping 700. You also wouldn't think the difference between 373Kw and 412Kw is THAT much, but it's the way it's delivered. The M6 was in its powerband from about 3,000rpm. The M5 comes in at about 2,000rpm. And it comes in big chunks. And it's unbelievable linear. There's no changing of cogs needed when you need to overtake, and its effortless. The car is so comfortable and quietly refined, you won't notice the speeds you're doing until you look at the speedo (or HUD, whichever is your preference). I've not pushed the car, I'm still learning it, but I have tested one LC, with a mate of mine in the car timing, and 0-100 came up in just under 4 seconds. I know you'll want photographical evidence of this. But for a 2 ton car, it shifts, rapidly. The handling dynamic is a lot different from the M6. For obvious reasons. One is a low slung coupe, and the other a 4 door sedan, so the geometries will naturally be different. Whereas the M6 felt a little happy in the back end, the M5 feels more planted. A bit more assured on its feet. The S63N under the bonnet is a masterpiece. It only redlines at 7000rpm, so a whole 1000rpm less than the M6, but cruising at 130kph on the freeway sees your needle sitting at just on 2000rpm, the M6 was significantly higher. The power delivery is absurd. The rear tyres do light up relatively quickly, so the car does constantly remind you that you're not toying with something small, something the M6 was accomplished at as well. Overall, you can see how BMW have upped the ante over the E6x range of 5's and 6's. I do feel the build quality is better, but then I would expect that of a car that is 5 years younger than my M6. And in fairness, it's a little unfair to compare the two, but from a mechanical perspective, the 4.4L twin turbo, twin scroll V8 is epic. I have been blown away by the performance and general dynamics of the car. My biggest complain, the Sport + suspension setting is ROCK hard and a little bone jarring. But otherwise, the car is simply breathtaking.

As a final note, the entertainment system and on board functionality of the car is worlds apart from what the M6 was. Anyone who has the CCC system in their E6x, should really contemplate the move to CIC, it's worth the R13k odd (if you build it yourself off parts from eBay), it'll really uplift the experience of the car.

So, overall, peas in a pod, but chalk and cheese. I loved my M6, and I had 2 and a half trouble free years with that car (save for a fence at Cedar Isle Auto), and I would HIGHLY recommend to any BMW petrol head that if you get the chance, get yourself a V10 M5 or M6. You will NOT be disappointed. As for the M5, well, I can't say enough about the car without grinning like a Cheshire Cat. The car has mesmerized me, and stolen my heart. I thought I'd miss my M6 a lot. And although I do miss the rawness of the M6, I find myself completely besotted with the M5. The realisation of a dream for me, and something I still have to pinch myself to believe I actually have it.

Overall Rating for the M5: 9.5/10

I won't give it a 10 out of 10 because the E46 M3 to me is probably still the BEST M car I have ever owned. But that may change in the coming months as I continue to enjoy the M5.

Note 5 should still be under warranty.
Get Samsung to sort it out.

So if the E46 M3 is the best M in your eyes, where does the Z4M fit?
Same spot since they share an engine or ranked lower?
