Its a bad position to be in. If the R4000 is going to let the dealer have recourse with the repairs in the future then scrape the pennies together and pay it. Motorplan will throw the issue at the dealer and you will most likely be fighting them.
If you go with the repair it will be interesting a few months down the line to see what charges will appear to your VIN that are motorplan related.

I wish BMW discounted their cars and sold them as a option without plan, I would be in Utopia. I avoid the brand now purely due to instances like this where people pay the price for the inability of dealerships to diagnose the cars issues accurately.

So I bit the bullet and paid the R4k. Picked up the car last night and there is a marked improvement in "normal" driving. Previously there never was an issue when driving the car WOT or in Sports mode. Hell three weeks ago I managed a 5.8s 0-100 in an impromptu test with my nephew

I constantly raised this with BMW that the issue is not the performance of the car but the driving in traffic, urban roads etc. In order to keep up with the flow of traffic I had to drive like a dufus. It looks like the issue was in the 1500 - 2500 rpm range. This is range that I use in traffic. This morning the car was smooth and responsive, no jerking when changing gears. It really was a pleasure driving it in normal traffic.

When I took the car in last week I insisted that the mechanic come with me on a drive so that I can show exactly what the issue is. We sat for close to 10 minutes with the car idling before he picked up the "misfire" I was referring to, drove around the block and sat another 5 minutes idling when it happened thrice. Dude immediately said it could be one of three things, O2 sensors, camshaft or carbon build up.

If I was not as pedantic as I am then both the injectors and this issue would not have been picked up. My wife and two of my buddies nearly convinced me that I was imagining things. The difference in how the car feels and drives vindicates me that I was not going mad :=):

I will post the quote tonight as the image posting site is blocked at work.

Damn man I was also wondering if u only do town driving because everybody always told me that town driving causes alot of carbon build up and excessive moisture in the exhaust system and I would think especially on a high performance vehicle

Thats y @ least once a week I ride the shit out of my vehicle's(sorry for language)

But I think u should di what u said and go to the carbon doctor but if I where you when they replaced the cam or whatever you should have went to look at the head and see if there was any carbon build up

You know what, I think you are correct. I think I am babying the car too much. I was in touch with the previous owner and he said he did not have a single problem with the car. And from what I can see when I spot him on the road he "enjoys" his M135i.

I drive this car a lot like I drove my 320i :=):

Thanks for the update on the car... Glad she runs well again! Will wait on the copy of the invoice showing the parts changed out...

Out of interest to anyone who may be curious I found a DIY to replace the cam ledges. Link below.

Another week, another problem

I mostly drive the car on weekends as I take the train to work. I used the car a couple of nights last week to visit my mother-in-law in hospital and was noticing that the "murmur" was still there. Once or twice the idling for a slit second was rough and there were a few times where under acceleration it felt like the car was losing traction. At the back of my mind I was already thinking the problem is not fixed.

On Sunday I left my moms house and as soon as I started the car the check engine light came on and car was in limp mode. Switching on and off did not clear the light. Started car this morning, light came on immediately and I could hear a metallic whine. The whine was there for a second or so after switching car off.

Car is sitting in garage waiting for BMW to collect. Did not even cover 500km since last repair. I think this is still related to my misfire issue and the faulty part has bow finally given in. The idle blip I mentioned in a previous post could also be related as I am still sure it was not there previously. Something like this happened on my 320i and it was the valvetronic motor.

One strange thing I picked up this weekend is that my brake pedal was extremely hard, like the brake booster was not working. When I started the car it would go back to normal. Brakes pedal was never this hard before. This only happened if car stood for a couple of hours.

I wonder if this is not the issue that I have been having. Would be tragic if injectors, plugs and inlet camshaft was replaced due to a $5 grommet :flyfun:

From e90Post
"There is a rubber grommet in that attaches the brake booster to one of it's vacuum lines. It is in a VERY tricky position. When the grommet stops sealing correctly around the vacuum line, you get a slow vacuum leak. Overnight, your brake pedal becomes hard. Ultimately, if this is left unchecked for a very long period of time, it will cause vacuum issues at idle and during deceleration.

The solution is very cheap: $5.00 for a new gromet and a case of beer for the guy with a set of midget hands to have it replaced. I sure as hell can't fit my hands in that spot."

Original thread: Does your brake booster hold vacuum with the engine off?
